REX - The Resurrection and the Dream
What's up, Everyone!
Long-time listener, first-time caller.
Seeing how destroyed my car looked was a horrifying sight. My black 89 FC got wrecked by a drunk driver doing something stupid at the stop sign, lost control, and slammed into my little beast. Of course, that drunk driver was my neighbor from down the street, lol.
After three months of fighting my insurance for trying to low-ball me on the car's value, I finally got an acceptable price. During that time, I searched and looked for a shop that could help me. Finally, I found a shop but unable to source a front clip, and the labor associated with repairing that damage was extensive, so I gave up.
I was lucky and found an 88 S4 FC in Seattle for $3500 during the COVID lockdown. That was a price I couldn't pass up, so on my girlfriend's birthday; she's a champ for supporting me and going with me. I then spent the Fall and Winter swapping over the parts from the S5 to the S4, dreading the time that I would have to junk slow REX (the black S5).
A few weeks ago, I got a message from a NorCal Rotary group member on Facebook and recommended Drift Cave to try and save the chassis. Thankfully these wizards among men have the magic to resurrect REX.
I didn't expect this to turn into a story, but it did, haha. I kind of like it!
My goals for this build are to turn it into my dedicated race car. This is because REX has a salvage title due to the wreck and because it was always a dream to build a race car for myself. I'm aiming to get to 400+ WHP with a REW turbo build.
Here's a list of what I'm getting so far:
I'm open to some advice; I'm still learning.

Here's a list of what I'm getting so far:
- 13B REW from Pineapple Racing
- Medium Streetport
- Stage 2 oil mods
- Modified center plate to bolt to FC chassis
- Aluminum baffled oil pan
- BorgWarner EFR 7670 EWG turbo
- Turblown FC3S EWG EFR manifold
- KOYO S5 N-FLOW Radiator
- Stock FD3S upper and lower intake manifold
- JDM TII Transmission
- Exedy Stage 4 twin disk clutch kit
- Turblown Engineering EWP system
- Dual Turbosmart Compgate 40mm wastegates
- Rotary Works Throttle Body and Intake elbow
- 1000cc primary injectors and 1700 secondaries
- Radium FD3S Fuel Rail Combo
- AEM IGN1A coils
- Haltech Elite 1500 with custom wiring (Mainly because I want to save the S5 harness for my red S4 without having to cut into either harness.)
I'm open to some advice; I'm still learning.
