how much boost?

hi!

My recently purchased FD is booked in for a dyno tune on wednesday, and I'm a bit confused as to what sort of boost I can run on the street. The turbo is a hks t04r, and the management is PowerFC. The best pump fuel we can get here in australia is 98 octane. The car is currently running 0.8bar and pulls ok, but it feels like it could do with a lot more in the top end. Anyone know what a safe boost limit is??

thanks,

rob.

Hey dougie, how is the scene over in tracy
Went there a couple months ago, was crazy!

Don't mean to jack your thread, I run 1 bar on 91 with about 15* of advance at 1bar, no audible knock or telltale power loss

91 TII stock port.
bnr stage 4 turbo.
large front mount
720 and 1600 injectors

I was thinking 13-15 on the street with 93 and premix and 17-20 on the track with 100 and premix.

That's sounds good. I'm running 14psi right now. Once I get my BC, it'll be 10 and 15. I don't really go to the track, so anything higher is overkill, IMO.

My setup is similar to yours:
90 TII streetport engine
KKK turbo
FMIC
720/1600

Seems like with the correct timing you could run more boost on the street... there two guys on in the 3rd gen section that i know of that are running 18psi on the stock turbos, which most likely put out a lot more heat than the large-ish to4r.

True. But I'm assuming that engine reliability is proportional to the amount of boost, right? Even with good tuning.

Seems to me that most FD guys run a lot more boost, even on the street than FC's.

Any ideas on engine life, running 18-20 psi...???

On our 98 octane 1 bar to 1.1 bar is a reliable limit so long as the charge temp is reasonable and you have it rich enough, remember you need some saftey factor cause of that crazy weather you guys have in WA
