Stainlessworks.net

fab a mockup downpipe out of 3in PVC and then ship it to them, they will copy it out of 304 stainless steel.

the bend radius of PVC is the same that there machine makes.

It was like $120-ish shipped for a 3.5" pipe bent w/ 2 mandrel bends and a 3.5" to 3" transition.. both in 304 SS. It took them a while to get around to 3.5" but they did a fine job. Not many people would/could mandrel bend 3.5" to spec.

Bought it with the turbo.. it was $80 for both flanges and the clamp. Cheapturbo has a 3" setup for $115.

very nice setup. I looked at all the pics, one question I have is why not have the wastegate dump tube go back into the dp? I know alot of pple usually just have it open like that, prolly because its much easier, but isnt it really loud? doesnt it drone out the turbo sound a bit?

im just wondering if there is a disadvandage to this or not.

I've heard it cuts power a tiny bit. Disrupts the exhaust flow for both your real exhaust and the exhaust comming out of wastegate. I am doing it w/o at first, then if I can't stand the noise, will do a tube to the dp.

it's really not /that/ loud. i mean, it's hella loud, but tolerable. at least on the open-wastegated cars I've heard.

I know I could deal with it, but Id like to get more music from the turbo.

what if you had 3.5" pipeing from the dp to the cb, so it would have more volume than just 3".
i mean how much would the this really hurt the power?

I got my V-band stuff from HKS.

Also, I was told by quite a few shops that 3.5 is about as large as they wanted to go cause their Jig or whatever set up they have on the bender can't fit 4" .. and I need a 4" to match the rest of my exhaust... :-(

Thanks. Open wastegate isn't really that loud and when it is loud, you're making max boost so you're moving pretty well. The rest of the exhaust is quiet (muffled midpipe + RB dual catbask) so it's a treat when it opens up..

Just as long as you know that these are made to join two pipes together, not a pipe and a turbo. You won't be able to weld this to a turbine housing.

From what I understand, if you need piping any bigger than 3" it's really just in the downpipe. Because the exhaust is so much hotter just as it leaves the turbo it takes up more volume. As it travels farther back it cools, and is less of an issue. Particularly when you vent the wastegate and divert a good 20-30% of the exhaust right to the atmosphere. 4 inches all the way back seems like a waste to me unless you're talking about making rediculous power.

My turbo came with the vband welded on already so I purchased for the dp side. Why wouldn't I be able to weld that to the turbo, anyway?

Because you'd never be able to put enough heat into it to properly weld it to the cast iron housing without it turning into a puddle. It's meant to be welded to stainless tubing. What came welded to your turbo is a thick, heavy and machined flange. They would have never bothered to make/buy that if they could get away with using a piece of exhaust tube.
