How do I not boost!

I have a street port 3mm rebuilt motor with zero miles and need to break in the motor.

How do i run my waste gate?
Do i take out the spring in the waste gate so i don't boost, not sure. I think it's a 7lb spring.

I also have a greddy profec S boost controller i need to set up. I assume just leave it off until I'm ready to dial it in for the boost i want.

mods are in sig

I also will be trying to tune the car with help from a mechanic. So i 'm just wondering what you all do when getting the car ready for a tune.

ditto post #2... You are going to have to just exercise self-control. Keep an eye on that boost gauge. Set the warning light/alarm on your boost controller to 1psi so you are more aware.

Take off a leg of the IC pipe. Put a filter on it if you care. Done.

Truth.

You have a very sizeable turbo, it shouldn't be a problem to drive it out of boost. I put 3000 miles on my new street ported motor with a GT4088 with a 1.06 hot side without going over 1-2psi. Just practice some self control and drive it as much as possible.

So when i'm tuning the car in 3rd gear, don't get the rpms up, so i don't boost. But the tune will not be right. So bascially i guess my question would be is how do you tune the car and break the motor in at the same time. I know your not punching the gas on a tune, but don't you need to drive normal, which will cause me to boost.

I guess i'll call a shop and ask, this is the first time with a aftermarket computer. Never had to deal with a tune and breaking in a motor at the same time.

2x dont do that.

you can pull the spring if you really think you can't do it. it may make it easier to tune that way also. but i never had a problem with coming into boost when i didnt want to. lol

pull your wastegate and run a short pipe with flanges back into the exhaust, you would have to be at WOT for a long time to come onto boost, and this allows you to slowly run it up into the upper rpm's as you progress with your break in without going into boost until you are actually at WOT. once broke in, replace wastegate. no over boost, allows a broader RPM range for break in, and does not over spool turbo.

on a side note if a ricer or idiot pulls up next to you he will think, and brag for days about how he stomped you, then when you are done breaking it in, and tuning it you can hand him his *** in spades.......

Just make sure your wastegate is hooked up (engine vaccume to the side of the wastegate) and take it easy on the throttle. There should be no problem at all driving. I broke my last motor in on this theory. Even 1-3lbs of boost should be fine if done by mistake. I can send you a map to break in your setup if you want to be safe.

I'm not getting what you are trying to do, you need to break-in the motor and tune it at the same time. That's not how this is supose to work, you need to breaking in the motor first for 500-1000 miles no boost. Then after you have the miles on you can tune it.

Wouldn't taking the spring out possibly rip / break the wastegates diaphragm when the valve gets pushed up and forced side to side? There is no spring stopping it from hitting the top and keeping it strait?

yeah, pulling your waste gate spring out could damage the valve... I don't think it was designed to slam back and forth every time you gave it throttle...

in dumb *** terms... boost is made when a load is applied to the turbo, so the harder you hit the throttle the faster boost will be created. Just idle around town like a little old lady and you will be fine...

Also, your engine can see low amounts of boost during break in... it aint gonna blow if you see 5psi

what kind of break in is this... everything in the motor brand new???

Just know your car and stay off the gas. Test it to see what rpm you start building boost and just dont go over that point. Tune your car up the rpm ..no need to tune above that..cuz you wont be going up there until your car is broken in.. So lets say your car comes on boost at 5000 rpm...just stay below 5000 rpm all the time..tune your car for 5000 and below with no boost...if the graph on boost and above 5000rpm is pure **** it shouldn't matter cuz you are not gonna be carrying the car to that part of the map..when you finished your break in..then you tune the rest of the map and be a happy camper

BUt just for safety just make everything above your boosting pig rich..that will slow your rev and also protect your engine from lean spots if your foot falls asleep on the gas pedal
