I have a little bit of holset knowledge that may help shed some light. the h1c, h1e, ect... were right before the hx and hy turbos came out. a h1c and hx35 have the exact same turbine wheels. as does the h1e and hx40. the x in hx signifies it being a divided housing turbo a hy is single entry. the biggest differences were that the older turbos rarely came with internal gates as apposed to the later hx series where more were wastegated than not(mostly on the hx35's) the hx's also have the ported shroud compressor covers (aka "anti surge" housings) I believe the 16cm on up housings were never offered wastegated. another thing to realize is hx35, hx40,ect.. is a frame size. much like garrett with there t3, t4, t6 designations. there could be several different compressor wheel options offered within that frame size. this is most common with the h1e and hx40. the more saught after hx40 is the 6 blade compressor wheel.(commonly found on the volvo hx40's) it flows quite a bit more than the standard 7 or 8 blade wheels. I have a few of the compressor maps and wheel sizes somewhere on my older computer. i'll try and dig them up some time.

Hi guys,
A turbo related question! If I am going with a big singel holset like teh H1E and at a guess needing to run around 15-20psi boost what size wouldbe best ofr an external wastegate? Also what reasonable ones are available? should I stay clear of the cheap ones on ebay? Let me know what you have. Also for the compression side I currently have one Apexi Twin Chamber blow off valve. Will I need more to cope with the boost? would a second unit the same be enough?

Thank you
Lee

Let me add a question:

What's wrong with the internal wastegate on the H1E? The ads say that they are good for 30 psi.

Also anyone know of a cast manifold that would fit this sucker on my car? Tubular is too expensive since I have shitty luck with cracking manifolds and would have to get one from A-Spec since it has a lifetime warranty ...that's like $1K

I'm running 3.5" exhaust with a Excessive engineering cast manifold. But with my new street port, 50mm HKS wastegate and 10psi spring, (Not a knock off) I can't keep the boost under control. 15-16 psi is the normal on a 3rd gear run. BTW, I'm running a profec B. I think a good manifold is the only way I'm going to control boost.

I had a similar problem, 10psi spring in single 44mm wg, 1/2 bridge, and full 4" exhaust... Hitting 15psi by 5500rpm in 1st. Needless to say I had to build a new twin 44 wg manifold and have been holding 8psi with the .6 bar springs in there through every gear.

So I take it everyone has boost creep issues with their holsets? Other than dumping money into a dual WG setup is there another fix? Can I port the internal wastegate like 2nd Gen owners do on their stock turbos?

Hi Guy's I am trying to further my quest to source a HX40 in the UK!!

Can someone please give the the 7 digit part number for the HX40 with T4 divided 19cm housing and preferably external wastegate. Also with V-band exhaust and inlet. I think there are different blade configrations so if that effects the part number which is best.. there is a 6,7 and 8 blade option if I have read correctly?
I would also like the same for a 16cm unioit.

Thank you
Lee

Guy's is there any chance someone who is running an HX40 turbo with a 19cm housing and T4 flange.. preferably with external wastgate can give me the Holset part number please.. Also if someone can do the same for a 16cm unit bonus.. I can try and get one here but people only understand part numbers!! Can give specs and sizes till I am blue in the face and no joy!
Any help much appreciated.
Thank you

I ran a street port Tii with 720 secondary, 550 primary, an older RTek flashed ecu, no ability to tune...

A Holset HX55 (divided hot side)...........and ran 15 psi (spooled at aout 3000 rpm).....made 320HP on a very quick dyno session, was running lean, and couldnt adjust fuel......

sold the car but here is a pic of it

Sorry to resurect this thread but if I am going to run a H1E, what kind of downpipe would I need? Also, would I need to weld on any flanges to make it work?
