Question Heatshielding the manifold ?

Was wondering what is the best method of keeping heat from manifold/DP from eventually melting things around it (hood...paint) ? I know there's a really nice thermal blanket that GothamRacing sells for the turbo, but I was wondering what everyone is using to keep the heat in for everything else? Turbonetics heatshield, thermal wrapping ?? TIA.

I've actually been looking at Steve's heat shield...there are several new items on the market. Do a search on Google for turbo heat shield and they'll come up (I don't have my bookmarks on this computer). I've tried several things from wrappings (which always come apart every time you remove the turbo) to a stainless steel heat shield from ATP Turbo (which doesn't quite fit a T78 but is fine for a T04S). My hood above the turbo got so hot that it cracked the clearcoat (carbon fiber hood) and I had to have it repainted. They're definitely a necessity. I can remember waaaay back when, people would say, "go single, reduce the amount of underhood heat!" Yeah, right!

yes this is true my single seems to be much hotter than the twins ever were

I after driving the car and then letting the car idle I cant even but my hand near where the exhaust part of the turbo is it feels like an oven! I still have the stock underhood protector though which is a great idea....If I make something out of aluminum from home depot will that help or what?

when i bought my turbo i asked the turbo guy about the same thing and he said the blankets cause rust to quick on the housing and that the best thing u can do is to get it hpc coated.

After talking with Steve about it, he says that their GothamRacing heat blanket is the best way to go and that they've been using it on all their cars. He says that after a couple of hard runs, you can even put your hand on it and it's cool to the touch. He did tell me not to thermal wrap the dp or Man. as they will cause rust and potential for cracking.

Just go to their website and click on what's new. It's on the second page. It's well worth the $$ bec. it's night and day when compared to say a heatsheild from Turbonetics, ATP etc...

I have no idea if the Single turbo puts out less heat but i would also think the location of the single being so much closer to the hood would make a huge difference as far as the methods discused hear.

Well, most singles help make more hp which means more BTU's plain and simple :-) Plainspeak, they produce more heat because they're making more hp. And as you mentioned, the positioning doesn't help. Plus there's a long length of downpipe in there as well. I've wrapped my downpipe as I did not have a chance to have it ceramic coated. I'd definitely go that route if you have the time, along with coating the turbine housing. Have both the inside and outside of your downpipe coated. Use the Gotham Racing heat shield too and you should be good to go.
