GT40R Turbo Only?

Anyone happen to know how much the GT40R by itself would be? I know there are kits avaliable, but it would be easier and cheaper for me to just buy the turbo itself and build the rest of the stuff.

Any ideas on the price of this? Maybe close to the price of a GT35/40 ?

i looked into that but it isnt a good idea. aspec does a number of things to the gt40 for it to work with our cars. everything is custom down to the turbo.

You will not want to just buy the turbo from any turbo shop. GT40R comes with a very weird turbine housing with a built-in non-flat v band flange. You will have to machine the flange flat to meet up with a 3.5" v band flange. Regular turbo shops can not do this for you. This has to be done with a CNC machine or you will have exhaust leak. We have done it already since we have the CNC machinist. If you want more info, email me at rotaryextreme@aol.com

So Chuck, do you have a GT40R for sale? (pm please) I need a 4" Vband, can you do that? If you are in the business, what AR, and trim did you choose? Thanks, Carl
Couldn't you just get a Vband clamp from Garrett, rather than machining the housing?

as "allrotor" and "rotaryextreme" said the GT40R will not work just by itself..there needs to be some machining done and a special adaptor for the turbine flange, this is not done by the average "turbo" shop ... Sean at A-spec already takes care of that with the kits

Maybe i should clarify some things

I dont want to buy a whole kit with a manifold and wastgate and whatnot. If i must by the turbo from Aspec, i have no problem with that, im pretty open to any vendor at this point. I enjoy building my own parts and this is no exception. So i would need the turbo from them because its machined to work, is that correct? Then from there i can just build my downpipe, manifold etc? Maybe im missing something here, but i dont see why i would have to buy everything, only the machined turbo and Vband clamp....

i dont think they will sell you just the turbo. they go through too much work to make it work to just make a few dollars on a turbo sell.

I'm sure ATP could "adjust" the turbine discharge given the fact they have a full machine shop.

Sean did mention some time back he had a few turbos for sale too, turbo only.

If you use what ATP gives you it will reduce the size of the turbine outlet, unless they got a new way of doing it, I have no more turbo's for sale, all are accounted for, I will be getting more very shortly but I think I am going to stick with just selling complete kits, I'm not to sure if I wanna sell just turbo's, it's just easier to sell the entire package.

Just talked to ATP. There's an extra cost option ($95) and they can machine it for you so there isn't the restriction issue and it'll mate to a 3" downpipe.

Sean, when are the complete kits going to be in? I called and left a message today. Oh, one other question....the GT35/40...does that use the 88mm or the 82mm compressor (or neither)?

When the flange on the housing is machined, it will fit the 3.5" v band. If you want a 4" v band, the housing has to be modified and weld on a 4" v band flange. Email me at rotaryextreme@aol.com for more info. Thanks.

Hey now that's the first time I've seen Sean spelt CHUCK

You could run a 4" exhaust if you wanted to.

ATP must have changed what they were doing then, good for them it only makes sense.

I have kits whenever you want made to order just let me know what you want.

Wheel on the 35R is 82mm.

hope that helps, Sean

Thanks for the reply on the 35/40 wheel...I have the 88mm wheel on my T78 now and love the top end but was contemplating the 35/40 as a street turbo. Me thinks I'll like the 40R better.
