As always, call Sean at A-Spec Tuning. He'll be able to build a manifold for anything!!

Sean, if you're reading this...do i need to deburr the welds on the inside of the manifold? i'm worried bits may come off and sayornarra the new toy.

HedgeHog , great pics, could you post some of the install, and especially the clearance for the turbo ?

I'll definitely keep a photo diary of it...but it will be a while yet. My motor components just got here and we'll be starting the work soon.

Finally got my kit in the car.....

I'm trying to post a picture of the engine bay after completion and some close-ups of the turbo "in situ" (any tips?). I'm using attachment on this post and it will only let me attach one picutre??? oh well....

I'm "breaking in" the engine right now and have the car scheduled to be tuned by Steve Kan in Orlando 4/24 so no dyno numbers yet.......

Installation........well........um......... we had some issues - one of the issues - it is a REALLY tight fit against the strut tower. We ended up having to put a spline in the RHS engine mount to get the turbo housing off the strut tower. Hard left under power = nasty vibration - may have to install an engine brace/torque brace. Still have a slight exhaust leak around the wastgate I'm trying to deal with........

All in all - I'm cautiously optimistic I'll make my goal of 450 rwhp with decent spool-up (i.e. full 15 lbs boost at 4500 rpm).

Stay tuned.....

Rusty, keep us updated. I think that you are about the closest to having a dyno sheet to share with us. I know I'm one of about 8 million people who are dieing to see a dyno graph of this turbo. Best of luck to you. Laterz.

Is this a fit issue that ASpec can address in the design of the manifold ?

the compressor housing is hitting? not the exhaust turbine?

did you loosen it a bit and see if clocking it differently would help?

my T04s compressor was hitting the rail and when i looked at it I thought...no way...reclocking it won't help....but it bought me about 3/4 of an inch

the angle of the output of the compressor housing...

it is completely variable. you can loosen the bolts that hold the compressor housing on and twist it around.

Thanks for the tip,

They are both pretty close to the strut tower but it was the "back housing" or "hot side" (i.e. turbine) that was rubbing.........I believe

We did "clock" the compressor housing to make a little extra space on the strut tower side but it starts to hit the LIM (can't seem to attach any pictures - sorry I'm a newb). It becomes a pretty tight fit especially if you have a strut tower brace (like I do).

We actually cut a little piece (one inch or so) off the compressor output pipe and welded on a 90 degree cast elbow just under the brace......

Exhaust turbine pic

Here's a picture of the hot-side (back) of the turbo. Unfortunately, you can't really tell how close it is to the strut tower because of my "trick" heat shield....... (about half an inch gap now with the spline under the RHS engine mount)

Anyone want to recommend a torque brace? Something that works well but won't send me to the dentist to get my fillings replaced .......

It is not anything that can be addressed, it is a very small space to fit a good sized turbo and still have low mount equal length manifold, I have had two kits with the larger A/Rs (1.06) fit just fine. zkeller being one. It is a tight fit but other than "RSB7" who has the smaller AR I've yet to have a "fit issue".

I can post pics tomarrow of my strut tower area. I have about a quarter to an 1/8 of an inch clearance.

Do this: Loosen up the power plant frame bolts at the tranny and make sure that the tranny is cocked as far as it can to the left as you can. It will buy you a fair amount of space.

PM if you need and explaination.

Tranny brace will help keep the motor in place. I have no hitting what so ever. I did not even have any hitting without the brace.

Thanks for the tip zkeller.

We'll have a look at the power plant frame bolts this w'end when I can get the car up on a lift.

Can I assume a "tranny brace" is the same as a "torque brace"? I've been looking for one on the web - Gotham Racing has a couple as does the RX7 store. Anyone have any experience with these?

I like the the look of the Rotary Extreme brace (RX7 store). I'll check into it today.......looking for minimum vibration and fabrication for install.

In the meantime, here's a pic of the engine bay....

Very nice , the bay looks good , and it is a tight fit.But jezz that thing is huge .

I have a torque brace and it is mounted to the back of the upper intake , and attaches to the frame . I think the motor brace your reffering to mounts below the motor ? The Feed torque brace and its a nice piece , but the simple designs work just as well and are alot less expensive .

I had a question about what size injectors your using with this kit . I was going to go 850 primary and 1600 secondary .Has anyone gone as large as 1000cc primary ?

Currentlly I have stock primaries (550s) and RC'd secondaries (1300s), I have also installed a TT Supra FP.

I'm looking for 450 rwp at around 15 lbs and I'm hoping this is enough injector. The Supra FP might need to be upgraded as well. I'm only running 7 lbs of boost right now (new engine) and I have to say - if feels awesome - so far.

I guess I'll find out what else I need to make my goal when Mr. Kan attempts to tune the car on 4/24.

fingers crossed.......

Rusty, you might wanna upgrade your primaries to 850. The 1300cc secondaries should do fine from what I understand. If you have the extra money I would buy some 1600's while you're at it though. If you think about it logically, then 1600's are a stock Bosch part while the 1300's are bored out 850's. Anything that has been bored out or modified has less chance of lasting as long as a stock part. Just some food for thought though. BTW, your engine bay looks GREAT!!

hey sean, what would you need from an FC to make a manifold for this turbokit?

Stock turbo + manifold, and intake manifold?
or would you need a whole doner car? I like this kit, like it alot more if I could get it to fit in my car.

would you recommend a Q-trim for a B-port motor for this turbo?

i'm getting a single kit soon, and i really like this one. It seems like it can be quite fun on pump gas, and even more fun on the occasional tank of race fuel. how long does it take to get ahold of one of these puppies?
