Wow, that is some impressive work you've done. The oil cooler setup looks amazing, as does the v-mount and the gauges. Nice choice on the turbo as well.

Attila, make sure you do a really careful job of removing the lapping compound from the irons. RB charges like ~40.00 to do an ultrasonic clean-up, or you can do it yourself, but that stuff is not something you want in your engine. It tends to get into every crevice dring lapping. By the way, looks great. Carl

Thanks for the kind words! I hope to be driving it in a month or two.

rynberg: Yes that is the CWR kit. I opted for that for the same reason, the ducting; I would rather have a 19 row with a duct than a 25 without. I didn't feel like going through all the motions of making new ducts, it's a pain!

My wife rocks! She got those for me because I was crying that she had better/larger tires and rims on her M3! Plus she likes me.

Carl: I asked RB to do the sonic cleaning after they did the lapping, but they don't do it anymore. I will definitely be doing a thorough cleaning with acetone. Does it matter if there is any left in the coolant passages, just incase I can't get all of it out? Will it come out with a rinse of the cooling system? I will make sure that the lapped surfaces and o-ring grooves are very well cleaned.

We'll it's been quite slow lately.

Due to some personal things going on, I'm debating on selling the project 'As-Is'. I really don't want to, and I haven't made up my mind yet.

So I decided to get back to working on it a bit. I want to get the gauges done so I can start building the engine and getting it running.

Here's a pic from today:

If I end up keeping the car, I will make another one as it's not as perfect as I'd like it to be. It's covered in leather!

I should get the main gauges done by next week.

Here's my solution to the PFC Check Engine Light:

I'll post a quick writeup in the PowerFC section.

I converted over the stock gauges to be green, to match the Defi gauges.

Some people don't like the green, but I like it. We'll see, and yes I'll post pics when it's done and lit up.

Not to mention, once you get moving, the air velocity will probably exceed the velocity that the fans can provide. The thought that I have is how the air is moving into the intake for the radiator and I/C. If the flow of air is going straight in, then the splitter might add some benefit. But if the flow is not straight in, it might create a small amount of turbulence and decrease the efficiency of the setup. At speed, the air is going to try and find the easiest way through. If everything is sealed up well on the sides it can only go through the radiator and I/C, and not spill around the sides (Which is probably very common on many front mount designs). I'm not trying to throw stones, I really like the idea.
I think the splitter is an excellent idea, and one that I felt should have been included with the V-mount kits available on the market.
Yes, airflow will always take the easiest route. But flow rates through the radiator and IC are different (even though they aren't mounted perpendicular to the airflow path; turbulence won't be a factor, because there will be a major reduction in airflow speed in that area due to the radiator/IC anyway); you could be sacrificing the efficiency of one heat exchanger for another due to their difference in airflow rates. Separating the two will prevent one from stealing airflow from another.

What I am in the process of doing is a combination, with a standard FMIC/RAD configuration. I am pulling additional air from the brake ducts in the bumper, and diverting it around the IC, and directly into the RAD, in combination with the ordinary frontal flow. This is on a pure track car. It is a good idea IMHO. Carl

Wow, I can't believe that I missed this thread until now. The project is coming along great. And I know how it is that you might have to sell it, but I think that I speak for everyone here when I say FIND A WAY TO KEEP IT!!!! With all the work you've put into it, it would completely suck *** if you had to get rid of it. Best of luck to you.

Well I've finally got the hard parts done!

Here's the guage pod, reconfigured, rewired, and all the illumination will be green (I hope):

As for the air splitter, that is exactly what I was thinking; that the flow will be different through each, especially with the fans on. That's why I thought it was a good idea.

I started with the prepping of the engine parts, but I'm stuck. I have a set of new (from a Reman) stock 2 piece Mazda apex seals and a set of new Rotary Aviation apex seals. I've been bouncing back and forth on which to use. Aaargh!

I hope to get the car running this month, as I will be gone all next month out of town. And if I don't, then it probably won't be ready for SS8.

Well I'm working on the car again!

Maybe it will be done before its one year anniversary of being down. (June)

New fuel lines and configuration:

Heat shielding:

Engine finally going in:

More fule lines:

More fuel lines with injectors installed:

Custom bracket for FPR to allow the split of the fuel rails (note the 180 from the secondary...turned out awesome)!

And I have 1/8 inch from the UIM to the line and 1/8 inch space from the FPR to the strut bar:
