Gt3540?

What would i ned to Upgrade from a T40E to a GT3540? basicly does the Turbine have the same foot print as the T4?

I precently have a HKS TO4E kit.

The Next Question is i have heard the Gt3540 is hard to damage if fitted correctly (in line oil fillter etc) and gives huge power gains from what i have read its like the gain from stock to T40e on my T4 at the same boost.

Just out of intrest you guys that have them fitted are they as good as you expected?

Thanks.

use the search function. there are enough gt3540 threads floating around for you to find enought 411. if not, send aspec tuning a private message, and sean can help you out;.

All you would need is an adapter from T4 to T3 to mount the hotside to

T04E is a T04 foot print.
GT series turbos are either T25 or T3. GT35/40 is T3.

Depends on your manifold design.
I have an HKS SS T04 manifold and it's not an easy bolt-on for the T4/T3 adapter. It does require a bit of modification since the piping or header pipe of the manifold is too close to the flange making it hard to bolt from the header side to the adapter flange.

There are several ways to make it work.

Which way is best? Replace the Manifold with the proper Gt3540 one or get an adapter?

Does it make alot of diffrence apart from the close Flange?

Thanks.

I have a gReddy stainless manifold that i previously had a T4 on. I have since bought a GT35/40 and i actually got an adaptor block custom made so i can keep my manifold. This was machined out of a single block of steel, and it contours the ex inlet size from T4 down to T3. This wasnt cheap but it is an absolute work of art! It was all done on a CNC machine. I will have pics in the next few days if your interested i can post them.

If i were you i get the proper manifold for the gt35/40. you will save alot of trouble having a custom dp, manifod flanges, and etc...... made.

Thanks....Chris

Grizzly,
it was a one off for me... i went to the machinist and told him what i needed, so we drew it all up on the computer and a few hours later it spat it out the other end of the CNC!

He has the drawings all done now, so it wont be too hard to replicate as most of the time/money is in the initial programming.

AFAIK these bits are not available from anybody off the shelf (hence why i had to get a custom one made)

let me know if your interested and i can price one. By the way i am in South Australia.

Got a question about the T3 flange on the gt3540, wouldn't that affect the flow of it, been that is smaller size than the T4 footprint? I was just thinking about that.

Sure you have to reduce it from a T4 flange to a T3 size, but not much you can do about it!

I will try and post some pics of it in this thread.

I'm curious about your adapter plate.

I posted pics of mine, but I found out that the adapter plate will not work unless I modify the HKS T04 manifold or weld the adapter plate on (I like the later option).

The HKS manifold has the tubular headers too close to the flange corners (the upper threaded holes) so you cannot fit a nut on the backside of the flange.

The adapter plate I have will not affect the flow velocity.
The volume it flows will be different since you reduce the footprint, but I would imagine it's insignificant.

I was just wondering about reducing the footprint, since I hear that rotary likes to have good exhaust flow. Wouldn't that hurt the top end or is the reduction of the footpring not enough that you don't have to worry about it?

Techincally, maybe it's better to have more air volume from the exhaust ports through the turbine housing.

However, I think the results from a lot of other tuners have proved that it is probably negligible if you have nice air velocity (good manifold design).
