Best Single Turbo kit?

Just kinda getting a feel of what you all think would be a good street kit? I say street kit but I also would like the big daddy turbo's listed as well....I am doing a build up here soon and would like some info. Also what kind of engine build up would you do? Thanks

600+

at least 600+ , basically trying to get as much HP as possible but at the same time, being reliable. I know many of you have achieved this. I am just trying to find out what and where? Thanks

"Reliable" RWHP numbers for a 13B-REW single turbo would be in the 375-425 range from what I have read here. 600 RWHP is territory held be very few people, mostly doing strictly drag racing and considered "race" engines that are all top end power. Besides, have you ever driven a high horsepower rear wheel drive car? If you haven't, you are going to kill yourself. Start off with reliability mods, work your way up to suspension mods, tires, cooling, freerer flowing exaust, then start adding power mods.

You can get away with it. You just have to be careful and know what you're doing. Hell, John Carmack drives around in a claimed 1600 HP Testarossa.

Thumbs down

Well thanks for your concern in that! How ever i have plenty of experience in high HP cars, rear wheel drive included, well instead of telling what not to do can anyone point me in the direction that i should be heading, 600+ was a little hefty, lets just say what can safely land me in the 11's?

most single turbo combos can land you in the 11's.

I THINK 400+ HP IS MORE THAN YOU NEED ON THE STREETS. YOU GOING TO HAVE ALL KINDS OF TRACTION PROBLEMS

Well a T04 60-1 .7 comp 1.15 A/R or a Garrett GT35/40 will both get you 400+ RWHP and you should be able to run 11's easy with those setups and they will spool pretty fast.

You can run 11's without single turbo.

ERNIET ran 11's with stock turbos. Of course there were many other mods.

I thought this thread was supposed to be about kits?

I don't like kits, anyway. I really like a custom T3/T4 setup - good for well over 200hp, keeps the rev's down to a manageable 5,000 rpm just like a piston engine, saving engine wear and fuel. Nobody makes a kit because of this, but you can always put it together yourself with a hot glue gun and some soda cans. This is absolutely the best turbo setup for anybody racing me.

APEXi RX6A

417 Corrected RWHP at 15 psi on 89 octane fuel and ported low compression rotor engine.

If you are looking for 11's and good streetability the smaller to medium size single turbos should do the job. My recommendations would be either of the XS kits, RX6 or the newer Garrett GT series kits... maybe the T78 but it may have more lag than you would like.

what do all of you run?

Well if 11's are so easy to obtain then what are you all running...10's? 9's? just kinda curious....what about a t78 then for the lag just a lil nitrous? I know a lot of you do this....wila t04 i can get over 400 hp but would 10's? be obtainable? thanks

Howmuch boost are you planning on running? You going to use race gas when you turn up the boost? Or perhaps water/methenol injection?
Some of the turbos give nice performance ie ~400 at 15-18psi but can get you lots of power if can crank up the boost to 25-28psi.

So the best kit is?

Still kinda fuzzy here, what is the best kit? tO4s? or the apexi kit? or anything else? moderate boost level trying to run 10's?

I think if you want to know the "best" setup, you have to state your goals exactly and then people can give you a couple to choose from.
So if you say: I want ~400 to the wheels, fast spoolup for street driving running 15psi on pump gas then people might say try the XS T04E or Apexi IH6 or a 60-1.
If you say I want ~500 rwhp at 22psi with water injection to drag race then perhaps people might say get a T04S or T78.
If you say you want ~600 rwhp on race gas at 30psi then perhaps the recomended setup would be a T70, T88 or T51 KAI.
