Question Gt3540 A/R, trim recommendations

I've pretty much settled on a Garrett GT3540 single. What sort of A/R, trim should I be running if my primary goal is roadrace with a healthy dose of drag thrown in to boot? Looking for great boost response, with a serious midrange hit in torque. Naturally a nice top end punch, say in the neighborhood of 450hp with more possible at higher boost levels for drag. Seriously, besides the durability and supposedly better spool-up, how much better is this turbo than say a T04S from XS? Who is currently offering, or is going to offer a kit, and what sort of configuration is the 3540 in those kits? C'mon now, speak up! :-)

get a 1.06 on the back and a .7 on the front. This is a proven setup for big HP and is still extremely drivable.

apart from the true BB centre, the blade/wheel design is brand new on the Gt and they are alot more efficient. T04 is very old-school technology, these new GT's are state of the art and worth the cash.

The trim of the compressor blade is more important than the AR of the compressor housing since all of the GT32/35 use an AR.70 housing. Trims are 52/56/64. try to get the 56t.

FWIW, the trim on mine is 56 for the compressor (flows 65 lbs/min) and 84 on the turbine

Gotboosted, I'm sure you've stated it before, but why are you selling yours? Also, I saw the Garrett stamp on the turbine housing but no pic of the actual Garrett tag in the center section....I'd feel a bit more comfortable purchasing a brand new turbo with a kit from a single supplier than piecing together stuff and finding out something doesn't fit.

Thanks to everyone else for the info too, I greatly appreciate it! Now who out there makes a complete kit currently?

Toy,
That was part of the reason for the post...several people have alluded to the fact that they have a "kit" either in the works, just about ready to go, or avalible. But no one has posted. There is one shop in Canada, can't remember the URL off hand, who will have a kit shortly. Let me dig up his email and the shop's web addy and I'll post it soon. Other than that, there's the Australia connection. Good exchange rate there, likewise in Canada. Other than that, not sure where to go.

Jeff e-mailed me the other day saying that in 2 weeks the kit will be ready. I think he has said that before, though.

How do you find out what trim a GT is? Is it stampped somewhere? what are the benefits/losses with each different trim?

I've been talking to Jeff at extremeboost.com for almost 2 weeks now. I was going to purchase the kit with what he's got so far (everything but the downpipe) but he hasn't gotten back to me...Jeff? Where are ya buddy?

When you buy a new turbo the trim size should be listed but trim size can be determined by dividing the major diameter of a comp/ex wheel by the minor diameter of the wheel.

A-spec tuning is also where you can get this kit. With stainless or thick mild steel mainfolds and downpipes you can choose between the wastegate being diverted back into the downpipe or into the atmosphere their kits are made to order, comes with all the fittings great customer support and a good price.Give them a call ask for Sean.

Hey guys, I have been working with one of the FD3 guys to complete the manifold and downpipe production and once the prototype is test fitted to his car, we will have it on the market. He expects to have it complete and test fitted within 3 weeks or so, so be patient, we want the kit to be PERFECT =)

Toy, I didn't forget yah, my bitch accountant didn't bring the info to fax over to you, so I will do so in the morning. If anyone just wants the turbo alone, email me any time, I can get great deals going.

OH, by the way, I recomend the 1.06 A/R, due to the smaller T3 turbine housing setup, the larger A/R is required to accomidate the exhaust pressure the FD3 puts out. Anything smaller would be restrictive.

GT trims.

Just found out that mine is 64 on the comp and 84 on the exhaust, with a .7 and 1.06 AR respectively.

I also know that the intake wheel diameter is 2.41/3.22, but when divided this equals .74, not .64......

hmmmm........

Anybody thats in the know care to comment on how a turbo of this spec/trim will go on a 13BT-REW?
