FD with TO4B?

Hey my dad has 2 TO4Bs sitting there brand new because he "was" going to make a twin turbo v8 but backed out afterwards, the kit is complete, and one of my twins on the FD just died. I was thinking of buying a manifold and sticking installing one of these? What do you guys think? Whats the maximum HP I can pull out of these?

I think 400 is attainable on pump gas, with a mild port... but I think Lag might be an issue, due to it beeing a non Ball Bearing Turbo.... But I don't think I'd expect miracles.... It's a tried and true turbo, do some searching, and I'd say you'll find plenty of dyno sheets, and oppinions

Depends entirely on the TO4B that it is, Fatman. Can you take the compressor housing off and then measure the minor and major (smaller part, larger part) of the compressor wheel with a dial caliper and then post the measurements?

Sure will taking it apart mess up any balances?

Alright I just checked and my dad said the AR is .96 now I need to see about the compressor side.

just taking off the compressor housing will not screw up the balance of the turbo.

The AR is .96 (says the paper that came with it). Its a Borg Warner , its part of a twin turbo kit for a v-8.

I think he means for the compressor side of the turbo. The .96 that you have paperwork for is most likely referring to the hot side of the turbo. Just get us those measurements for the wheel and we can go from there...

Thats exactly what I meant. Doesn A/R mean hot side? Still trying to find some dial calipers.

a/r can refer to either cold or hot side of the turbo. It is a ratio measuring the area of the tube versus the radius of the housing... its kinda hard to explain, but it is referred for both. It's just that most of the time people are talking about the hot side as that is a big factor in sizing a turbo. The .96 that you said is pretty well suited for a rotary so that aspect of the turbo is good to go

a .96 on cold side would be rediculous

pretty much anthing with a .96 turbine will work fine. How much hp will depend on the compressor side.
