fd single manifold+stud problem

hey guys,
ive been trying to go single but ive run into one small problem.
i got the twins all off, and mounted the single manifold.
but the problem i can only use a deep socket to put on/off the bolts.
the deep socket worked taking off the twins but makes contact with the single manifold.

does this mean that i need to switch to shorter studs????
if so, how would i go about doing so without snapping one off???

any assistance would be much appreciated.

I went with shorter studs since the header flange was not as thick as the stock, and it helped so i can install the turbo and manifold with it put together. You can use two nuts on one stud to remove the old studs.

You can either try using a shallow socket, a wrench (what I did), or you can double nut the studs and take them out (as already said above).

Why not use an open end wrench to turn them?

I just did this last week. No just a few good shots of PB blaster helped those studs come right out. Spray em down give it a lil while to work and then just unscrew em...

Strange though, I did not have any problem using a socket to put the nuts back on the studs to sure up the manifold. Maybe your studs just need screwed in further.

IF you double nut them they should come right out... Even if someone Loctited them in there the heat produced by the engine would break it down pretty good.
