External Wastegate not working

My wastegate wasn't opening when I had Steve here to tune my car and I think I've discovered the reason why.

As far as I can tell an external wastegate is supposed to have 2 nipples. 1 on the top and 1 on the side.

The one on the side is missing and there is a threaded hole where it used to be. I bought the wastegate used and just never noticed (duh).

My question is, is that side nipple a free flowing port or is it supposed to allow air to flow in 1 direction only? I need to know so I can find a replacement part and get my car going.

Thanks for the help.

Is it about TIAL?
U can use only one nipple on it. Read manual.
On our central-motor turbo Honda CRX we use tial 38mm in this way.

side is the one you want to hook up to, vent the top.

The wastegate I'm using is a Greddy Type - R 47mm external wastegate if that helps.

That threaded hole is probably where a banjo bolt fit in to. Which would be your source for boost to the WG. The top nipple is where you would plug in a line coming from a electronic boost controller.

It's pretty simple once you figure it out, but i really only found out the use for the top nipple very recently from a fellow local forum member!

side opens the gate, top closes it (for boost control).

So is the side port a 1 way valve or can I just use a fitting with a barb on 1 end and the proper thread pitch on the other?
