Dowel Pins

I have 20 PSI on pump.... should I take out the block and do Dowel Pins before huge problems occur??

Who has done them and how did you do them?

Any suugetions on keeping the block together at high boost?

I have access to a machine shop...just fill me in on HOW TO dowel pin a 13BREW.

Thanks

20 psi on pump is way too much in my opinion. I won't run more tha n 16 on 93 octane. Dowl pinning does nothing tocombat detonation.Only strengthens the block to resist twisting. Unless you are making like 700hp+ you don't need it.

As far as I know/have read, not many people have dowel-pinned until (as mentioned above) up around the 700rwhp area... The 13brew irons should be reinforced enough to handle 500rwhp. BTW, forum member 87GTR made (I believe) 499rwhp on a half-bridge S5 13bt motor... So I'm lead to believe that a 13brew should be able to do that as well...

BTW, also said above, 20 psi might be too much boost for pump gas. If you're in cali, pump gas would only be 91 octane... So unless you're running REALLY rich A/F mixtures and/or water injection, then you might want to lower the boost or run race gas.

You already got a suggestion with your first reply and then you threw your caps lock on.

As for holding the block together then you should be considering running your 20psi on better fuel.

Demetrious ran nearly 700bhp with no special mods done to the block assembly.

Dowel pinning the block PROPERLY is not an easy task, i think Keith(KG parts) put some pictures up once, do a search, you will see how involved it is.

So to sum up what everyone said...
1) You don't need to get it dowel pinned
2) Run good fuel (93 octane + booster would be good if you cant' get higher octane)
3) If you REALLY want to get it dowelled then take it to an experienced CNC machine shop, preferably one that has dowelled rotary engines before

Thanks Guys

I am running water injection...and 93 oc.

Its just that a TII over the weekend, that I race with, broke his pins on the dyno pushing 17PSI on VP, he was at about 440HP. + he has a 60-1...i got a GT66 and didnt want the same thing to occur.

Thanks again.

Hmm, usually the dowel pins don't break... It's usually the irons that breal. But yea, TII motors (13bt's) are less reinforced around the dowel pin areas...

Is that for all 13BT's or just S4? Can you explain the differences in dowelling between S4,S5,S6 ?
