Diff between 60-1 and 60-1 hi-fi

Hello... could any turbo experts tell me the physical differences between a Garrett 60-1 and a 60-1 Hi-Fi compressor wheel?

According to Turbonetics, they are both 3.000 inches and 2.324 inches for the diameters... but I wonder if one has more blades or is thicker or something....

I have a comp wheel here that has those measurements and "RO-795" or maybe "RO-79S" printed in ink on one of the blades... what is it? Either of these?

Pictures would be great!!

The only difference I can find is the inlet size 2.75 vs. 4"...Max

My 60-1 (in my T04S) has 7 sets of blades... I found a picture on the 'net of something that someone says is a 60-1 Hi-Fi and it has 6 pairs of blades... does this sound right? My 'mystery wheel' has 7 sets of blades.... so I guess that makes it a 60-1 like is installed on my FD now.

As Max said, the only difference is in the compressor housing cover. HiFi=2.75" "regular"=4" compressor inlet.

Hmmm well if the only difference is the cover then why does turbonetics list two different part numbers when you are only buying the wheel?

http://64.225.76.178/catalog/comp_wheels.html

Note that there is one part number for 60-1, one for 60-1 hi-fi, one for 2.75 inch inlet comp housing, and one for the 4.00 inch inlet housing.

The wheel is identical if you're talking about Turbonetics. I use the 60-1 HIFI. The compressor housing is different; it's a 0.60 A/R with a 3" inlet and 2" outlet.

Whats been said already.....

The diff between the standard 60-1 and HiFi is only the housings. the compressor wheels are identicle.

The standard housing for the 60-1 is a T04s housing in a 4" inlet and 2.5" outlet and .70 A/r.

The HiFi comes with a 2.75" or 3" (depends how much was machined off) inlet with a 2" disscharge in a .60 A/R and flows roughly 5 to 10 % LESS flow then the t04s housing. the HiFi's compressor housing is phsically smaller and can be placed in tighter locations (like on a stock TII turbine to make a hybrid) were as the T04s housing is LARGE. Being its a .60 A/R spool most likey comes on sooner and will be a bit more linear and *may* be slightly more efficient at lower flowing, higher boost applications ex: a motor injesting less air, but at higher pressures.

The back side of the hifi compressor wheel is milled so it will fit the smaller housing. Apparently they both begin life as standard 60-1 wheels.

As stated on turbonetics.com...the HIFI flows aprox. 20%less air due to smaller inlet/out.

Directly from turbonetics site (or rather PT turbochargers).

QUOTE: [The 60-1 Performance Turbocharger
Representing the careful marriage of a unique high flow/high efficiency compressor section teamed up with a T4 turbine section the 60-1 has proven itself in every competitive motorsport application from drag racing to Bonneville. Available with either the standard (4” inlet, 2.5” discharge) compressor housing or the 60-1 Hi-Fi ( 2 3/4” inlet, 2” discharge) compressor housing, the 60-1 will outflow any standard T04B with ease! (The 60-1 Hi-Fi will deliver approximately 90-95% of the flow capacity of the standard 60-1.) ]

http://64.225.76.178/main.htm

90-95% = 5-10% LESS flow, not 20.

I ordered a To4B from garrett, and has the 60-1 compressor, t4 turbine. Same measurements as everyone here is explaining. So would this be a "hi-fi" or the larger T04S? I was under the impression a To4s =60-1, so which one am I getting? I wanted the larger inlet outlet.......

In general, the 60-1 comes with the T04s housing. Most of the time you need to specify the HiFi if you want it. It also depends on whom you ordered it from. Some small turbo suppliers will use the standard T04b compressor housing bored to a 60-1 wheel just because they have them available and are cheap. Some will use what evr is on hand housing wise. Always be as specific as possible when ordering a turbo. Sorry I doubt if I was any help.
