Cold Air Setup
I am running single turbo and have absolutely no space for a cold air box and my turbo is currently pulling air from just behind the radiaror , I am thinking of removing my radiator over-flow (expansion tank) and sticking one or a pair of filters (which ever fits) down in the fender , has anyone done this ? , if so can you post some details like the type and size of filters used and maybe post some pictures , I also plan to replace the expansion tank with another smaller one and place it inside the engine bay.
No I have no room , the compressor is a bit large (TA51) so I had to build the exhaust manifold to put the turbo forward , the compressor is directly over the battery support bar , I also had to rotate the compressor housing toward the left side of the car and then using aluminum elbows , redirect it to the right side 'cause the hood wouldnt close if it's pointing upward , so there is also a 3' aluminum pipe running across the turbos suction limiting space , what I have now is a filter that is mounted directly onto the turbos "mouth' and still thespace is at a premium .The filter is pulling hot air directly from the back of the radiator , my plan is to use a heavy fiexable hose and turn it backward and to th side and somehow get a filter down into the fender where the radiator expansion bottle was.
I can't do that either , I modified (cut & ground) the front of the car to accept a large NPR intercooler (after also modifying the IC to get the hose connection pieces pointing streight backwards, instead of up ) to fit in the nose where those GREDDY IC's go.The IC pipes are passing exactly where that filter is sittin now.

I'm going to move this into the Single Turbo forum as they may have more suggestions for you.
I was thinking about doing something similar but instead I was going to remove/convert the windshield washer resevoir on the other side to the radiator overflow. Never went further than concept with that idea so maybe there is something that would stop you from doing that. Take a look at it - it will be another month til I get to that detail on my car.

I guess I really have to put up some pics so you guys can see what I am talking about , placing it on the opposite side of the car isnt possible either because the piping coming from the intercooler and the MSD'S and coils would be in the way , I already put those items in the space which used to be occupied by the battery.
What I am saying is yes remove the radiator over flow and put an intake in there - even better if you have aftermarket lights because there would be a bunch of space to use. But getting rid of the overflow isnt the best idea. So simply pipe the overflow piping to the opposite side and use the windsheild resevoir as the radiator resevoir. Off course I would recommend removing the windshield spraying system because antifreeze probably not best to spray on your windshield to improve visibility.

I dont plan to totally get rid of the rad. overflow bottle , just replace it with a smaller one and tuck it somewhere under the hood . I will look further into using the wind screen washer reservoir as the rad. reservoir , but I am one who just hates to drive with a dirty wind shield so I will have to replace and relocate that reservoir , so I guess either way its still the same thing , I will still have to source and relocate a reservoir, either the rad . or the windshield.Thanks any way , will let you know how it turns out.
Post a pic. Should be many places to put a filter. The only problem is getting the air to the compressor efficiently. The easiest for you would be below the head light bucket with a ram air. Costly changing your lights though. Post a pic for ideas.
i plan on doing exactly what shawnk was talking about. i still havent gotten time to really investigate the windshield fluid reservoir to make sure it will work though. if you live in a cold climate it might be nice to have some somewhat warm fluid to spray on your windshield.....haha
i personally dont really ever use my windshield washers - if it gets dirty i just go to the gas station and i usually have some water & napkins/towells in the car anyways.
everytime i think i have an original idea.....damn.....but maybe i thought of it before you?....muahahaha

if you have a sleek light kit i dont think you would even have to mess with the overflow tank...i think you would have enough room right under the casing for the lights.....maybe someone with a kit can comment on this and take some pics
