Single Turbo Sparking/Starting Problem -Haltech E6K

Hello All,

I recently got my car up and running again and all seemed to be fine when I put it away for a week during my vacation. Unfortunately when I came back she wouldn't start. I put an in-line light to test for spark, but I am not getting any at all during turnover, but there is a single initial spark when the key is turned from "off" to "acc". I also couldn't smell fuel out the rear, but I smelled the starting fluid when I used it. I checked the pump and it is working, so I believe the injectors are not firing. Next I pulled the Haltech and I noticed that there was a fuse blown in the wiring harness (the purple 3 amp fuse). I replaced that to no avail.

Thus I am asking if anyone has any input they could offer. Is it possible that the Haltech was somehow shorted and now not functioning properly? Would that be the next best step, to send it in? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

As I said, there is no spark when turning the engine over, but when the key is initially turned from the "off" position to the "acc" position there is a single spark. I checked all 4 plugs and they all do this. What the purpose of this spark is (a diagnostic of some sort?), I do not know, but it leads me to believe that the coils are functional. I hope that clarifies what I have observed.

recently when doing an install in my friends rx3 w/ a tII motor and ignition i had the same problem. you did not mention what car you have, so i dont know if this would apply. anyway... we moved the coils and did not ground the actual coil just to start the car up and move it to make room for another car that had to be pulled in the garage. the damn thing would not start and did the same thing you are describing. there was an initial spark, but not a constant one. after taking a step back to think about it, the coils got grounded and it purrrs like a kitten. dont knwo if this could have anything to do with your problem, but thought i would say it anyway.

Trigger Wheel?

Hook a laptop up to the haltech. And try and start the car. Do you see the RPM registering around 250rpm. If you do not see any RPM then you are not getting spark because the ecu has no idea the engine is spinning. If you do get rpm but no spark then check your ignition.

Hope this helps,
D

Thanks for the response guys... BTW it is an FD. I tried to hook up the Haltech to 2 different computers but it just freezes the program when I try "online" mode, saying "Reconnect Haltech". When the unit isn't plugged in it says the same, but allows me to exit/retry. Plot thickens...

Being that the fuse that was blown was that of the ecu and this computer linking issue, it is becoming more and more apparent that the problem lies within the Haltech.
Any thoughts to this? I tried to call Haltech, but no one is around.

I was wondering why the answering machine said Austrailian hours! I'll have to try them.

Not sure if this is your problem, but we had a few local guys who received bad Haltech units. They all needed to be replaced (and the replacements worked fine).

Replaced Haltech

Hello all,

Well, I sent the Haltech away and sure enough it was lost in the mail. I just received a new one and installed it, but the car still will not start. This unit did link up to a cpu and I tried what rotor_dee had mentioned...there was no engine rpm when I tried to start the car. That said, are there any specific causes and/or solutions to this problem? Input would be appreciated.
