Ceramic coating does it help
I have a FD with a garret T04S and all the mods. I sent off my intercooler and radiator to get made into a v-mount. I am currently getting some parts powder coated and cleaning up the engine bay. I am looking at getting the LIM, UIM, manifold, down pipe, and hot side all ceramic coated. I am wondering if it helps a lot? I know that it will keep the motor bay cooler but will it increase HP?

Anyone........I might have this in the wrong section. Like i said i know it will cool the engine bay a ton. Will/does it spool the turbo quicker, add hp? what does ceramic coating accoplish besides cooling the engine bay or is that all that it does. I already have the parts at the coater. thanks for the help

No one that i know of has managed to show gains over standard error. The heat is moving through the manifold/turbo fast enough that the relatively small quantity that is retained by the ceramic (instead of lost as waste heat) is negligible -but what is negligible on the inside can make a big difference on the outside.
tl;dr- no, i've never seen conclusive proof that coatings make power. however, benefits do exist.

+1, I've only seen correlation between people running reliable good power that happen to have great heat insulation (like busted7's 500whp DD) I've never actually seen someone do a test to prove that it makes a big difference. I would think a turbo blanket would be somewhat more effective in retaining heat than a thin coating of anything.

Really what im doing is cleaning up the engine bay. But i wanted to know if it helped at all. Thanks for the input. Just trying to justify spending $550 in the ceramic and powder coating. Should clean it up and make it look a lot better. Plus with the intake manifold off I decided to run 2000cc injectors and running E85. I hope it makes over 500 hp this time.

I know that JetHot coating goes up to 3,600 degrees. I dont know of another coating that goes higher. But yes i heard that coating the rotors can cause flaking. That is why i didnt do it. Shop told me not to.

Well i am installing the parts now. Installing a V-mount and will be running E85. So with all these mods the car will run cooler. Shorter pipe for the intercooler will help with turbo lag. But if anything $550 dressed the engine bay up. Even though all of it is black.
