Hey. Would anyone know which compressor housing (cold side) I can switch to to reduce the whistle sound? As much as I love the sounds of turbos this one you start to hear at around 1800 RPM. Driving through town sounds like an 18 wheeler.... 😂

put a filter on it. a nice k&n. it will quiet it but the whistle is part of the turbo. you have to get a different turbo if you dont want it to whistle

Oh that would be amazing! I'll give it a shot.
I did see a video where someone had the same complaint. He just changed the compressor housing and it made a difference.

unless it was already modified (T51R etc) you may be SOL short of a turbo change, and that could end up the same or worse just depending. Otherwise it would likely be a custom job addressing it in any way. Not aware of there being any such option. It’s often showboaters and attention harlots wanting more whistle than less.

the whistle is essential... it must be retained. its part of the experience. its like owning an fd but having never been on a tow truck. its just part of it.....

Enclosed filter with silicon or rubber duct should help.

Very bad idea. Unfiltered air kills rotaries extremely quickly. Dirt gets in between the side housings and the side of the rotor and has no way out, rapidly destroying the side seals and side housings. It will also wear the apex seal sides and apex seal grooves, making them more prone to damage.

I have seen an engine with an unoiled filter (but still A filter) get completely ruined inside in 400 miles. The only useable parts were the rotor housings and eccentric shaft.
