weird noise from my new stock twins

i was tryin to search, but there seems some problem with the database. anway, my fd has a new turbo put on about 3500 miles ago.. it pulls right boost at 10-8-10.. but whenever i go wot at any gear, it make high pitch chime or something sound like metal scarpin metal (in very hi-pitch). also whenever i changed my oil, and start her up, it'll smoke and drip oil around the turbo and dp area.

now my q. is, where should i go start lookin first before i pull everything off. thanks

Yeah, i've got the same problem, the sound is a mix between rattle and spooling sound at WOT. It seems to kick in at around 3500+ after hearing the turbo's spool for a bit, the rattle kicks in. still get the 10-8-10 boost pattern tho. Have you tried Damien's fix of tightening the TCA rod? I just noticed it a couple of days ago, and haven't had the time to put the car up yet.

Sounds like the bearings are worn (and/or were reassembled out of spec to begin with) and the turbine or compressor wheel is scraping the inside of the housing. This is NOT good, esp on the compressor side, since that means that small shavings of steel and aluminum may be ingested by your engine. Take off the inlet pipe on the rear turbo and peek in there (if you can, it's tight). It may be just on the rear and that's why you hear it at WOT only.

Just a suggestion.

Noise

I have what is possibly a similar sound under the same conditions. I think mine is actually a buzzer inside the car under the passenger side dash. I get it when ever I get into the throttle about 1/3 of the way too quick and arund 3000 rpm. It doesn't make this sound if I ease into the throttle or if rev it in neutral. Anyone know what this "buzzer" might be? I hope to hel it's nt the turbos. They seem to run fine otherwise and while I had my inlet pipe off of the rear I felt if the turbine and it feels tight.

Check your y-pipe to turbo nuts for proper torque, and check your gaskets. I had a similar sound after re-installing the twins. I removed the y-pipe to find that I had put a metal gasket on the studs of the rear turbo, and there was already the stock black(plastic?) gasket stuck to the y-pipe. I removed the old gasket material and no more noise. If you are using the metal gaskets and do not tigthen the nuts down fully, you can also get a high pitched wistle sound.
