Do NOT put a restrictor on the oil drain hose. You'll probably coke up your turbo from slowing the oil drain.

If you need a restrictor, I used a Holley carb and tapped the inside of the my -4 AN fitting on the oil feed line (turbo end).

Even though BB requires less oil for lubrication, I doubt the restrictor will solve all problems.

My GT35/40 (brand new) has a built-in restrictor in the CHRA oil inlet port. It used to smoke on boost due to the oil seals wearing out. Now, it'll smoke at idle and a little during cruise. Basic point, it could be something other than your turbocharger that is sourcing the oil smoke.

AJatx, Very true. It could be something else other then the turbo. I have oil in my intercooler pipes from the FMIC to the throttle body, but no oil on the turbo side of the FMIC.
The more I think about it, it seems that this happened to me when one of my intercooler pipes came off under high boost. Could the turbo be boosting extra to try to keep the boost regulated, but because of the major boost leak, over spin? Does that make any sense?

First, is your turbo brand new? If it is, what size drain line are you running? If it is not equal to the drain hole of the turbo and engine, then its too small. You have to remember that the Oil supply is pressure fed, while the drain is using gravity to flow. Im running a -10 as my drain.

Just wanted everyone to know that I have solved the problem. My PCV valve went and wouldn't let the crankcase breathe. This was building up pressure and eventually enough to where is would go through the seals on the turbo, which then sent the oil through the intercooler and down the down pipe, causing a massive cloud of smoke after sustained boost.

The fix : got rid of the PCV valve, capped the intake part to the PCV and vented the tube that from the oil filler neck to the PCV into the atmosphere. Its open right now but I will be putting a little K&N filter to it tomarrow.

The result: No more smoking. My oil pressure now does not top out to 120 because it can breathe. Let me tell you, this is such a relief. Thanks for the help guys.

Brian - Do you get any oil being spewed into your engine bay through the filter you put on the end of the fill neck nipple?

I think I'm gonna have to do this mod too as I'm getting the same behaivor after sustained boost, 2 seconds after I let off the throttle, nice big blue plume for about 1/2 a second.

Found out my blow off valve was opening very late. KDR had t'd its vacuum hose into the boost gauge hose. I guess it was loosing too much vacuum this way, as the boost gauge has its own spring. I shortened the line and routed it to its own nipple on the intake manifold. Now it opens much earlier and actually sounds nice. I'm scared that I might have hurt the turbo from compressor surge at 15 psi.

Thanks for the tip Ihor -- I've already got my BOV run on a single (no T's) hose, directly to the manifold. I did however take some adjusting to get my BOV to react quick enough and avoid surge. ie if I was slow off the peddle I could hear compressor surge for a quick second before the BOV would release. Currently I'm using a Greddy Type S mounted on the Greddy Elbow flange.

kyle,
I have no oil coming out of the filter by the oil filler neck and all my smoking problems are gone. Watch your oil pressure when your on boost and see if it tops out like mine did.

My logs say it does (pegged @ 120)...my eyes are usually on the road @ 16psi.
