Blitz intercooler. Good with single setup?

I will be going single turbo, on my 93, over the next month or so (gt35/40). I will be running around 13psi daily driving and 15psi at the track. I have noticed that for the most part people are going with the Greedy intercoolers. I am interested in the Blitz, mainly because of the fit. Does anyone see any issues arising from this choice, or should I be good to go with the Blitz intercooler?

Thanks,
Grant

no it's a great intercooler.. i have it on my car witha t78.. no complaints.. and it was an easy install. and it goes inside the front end which avoids damages incase of a light collision in the fron tor some idiot backing into you. HUGE core.. doesn't look as big because it doesn't sit out in front like the greddy but it's huge..

measures 19 1/4" x 11 1/6" x 4"

not bad at all.. for your amount of boost...

hey Igoslow do you think that you could post a couple of pictures of your fmic. I have been looking for pictures of the blitz fmic and haven't been able to find any good ones. I am going single in the next month and I was thinking about the blitz fmic but I haven't heard of any one using it for a single.
thanks

I am using the Blitz fmic with an HKS TO4E turbo kit, works awesome. The Blitz is a great kit because it is so much easier to install than the Greddy kits, no removing the front bumper, no trimming the bumper skin, no road damage because it is not pushed up to the very front of the bumper opening. The core is huge like stated above, my intake temps on the way to work today in LA traffic were about 32C in traffic! When I am cruising they dip into the 20's, and at night it is common to see 18-19C.. pretty cold. If I had it to do over again I would stay with the Blitz.

Hi. I live in So CA also so I have to deal with the intake air temps in traffic too. Right now I have a T04E single turbo and the M2 Perf med SMIC. According to Yahoo weather, the outside air temp was 72F today. While sitting in traffic my PFC showed the intake air temp was around 50C, sometimes even 55C. But once I hit an open area and got up to cruising speed (with some decent air flow), the temp was in the 40-45C range. After a while of having good airflow, the temps got down to about 37C.

It's obvious that if you do get stuck in traffic, the SMIC is definitely going to suffer from heat soak. I am now considering a FMIC. Did you have to bend the A/C lines or anything else?

And lastly, you can email your pics to tomsrx7@aol.com and I'll host them for you. Make sure to include the thread address so I know where to link it.

Unfortunately you do have to bend the A/C lines, it can be pretty tough to do because they are so easy to crimp and snap in two. Ask me how I know. I think my first post about getting temps below 20C was an exaggeration, I had temps around 19C one night but I haven't been able to reproduce that again. This is good for comparison though, I had my car out today as well and hit some traffic like usual.

Cruising temps are always below 35C for me lately, they will get into the upper 20's in the morning/evening when it is a bit cooler. The one stretch of traffic I hit sent the temps up to about 33-35C. I stopped at the market for a bit, when I restarted the car after sitting the temps were around 45C and dropped as soon as I started moving. We'll see what happens this summer though. One a side note, switching over to a single turbo vs. twins dropped my intake temps significantly.. I'd say 10-12C on average.

I'll shoot you an email so you can see the setup.

mjw, those are nice intake temps. My intake temps doing boost runs on the highway at 50-55F were in the high 30C's, about 38-39C averaged over the 20x20 map.

If my numbers are comparable to yours in terms of testing methods, it looks like yours are 5C+ lower. If the methods aren't comparable and you get a chance, how about doing some on boost / coast down / full boost / coast down runs on the highway at night and reporting those numbers for comparison?

Thanks,
-Max

I thought that the Blitz FMIC was designed to work with the stock IC piping coming off of the throttle body. I am assuming you had to customize a pipe to fit in conjunction with the Greddy intake elbow and the piping included in the kit.
I am strongly considering going with the Blitz FMIC when I get the money and would like to ditch the nasty stock IC pipe leading into the TB so could you give the length and the bend you had to custom fab. to get the pipe to connect using the Greddy intake elbow.

BUt the two piece kit.. comes with the elbo and a longer pip extening to stock or greddy FMIC. just cut the second pipe to wear it meets the bliz fmix piping...

Buy the two piece kit.. comes with the elbow and a longer pipe extending to stock or greddy FMIC. just cut the second pipe to where it meets the bliz fmix piping...

Max:

I will get back to you on the intake temps, I'll send you a PM when I update this thread. The car is hibernating in the garage until this weekend, I was driving it to work all last week to break in the new clutch.

ROTARYFDTT:

You are correct, the Blitz piping is designed to mate with the stock intake elbow off of the TB. My Greddy elbow has an extension welded onto it as you can see in the picture, you can either do this or get the 2-piece kit that was suggested above.

3isacharm:

Check out this thread, it has a picture of the front of my car when I still had the stock twins. You can see that it sits further back than the Greddy/Apexi kits.
