To achieve 400rwhp on 15psi What TURBO?

Hi guys
I have a S6 RX7 and planing to go with single turbo, im aiming to achieve 400 to 450rwhp on 15psi can you help with choosing the right turbo?
Also ive been told a GT40R and T04E\66 are good choises correct?

Is the engine going to be reliable with that sort of power?
Thanks

That can be done with a t04e 60 trim or even a to4b 60-1,I was there with stock ports and not at quite 15 psi..Max

T04E is too small to make the power you want at the boost levels you want.

The GT40R is probably a pretty nice turbo, but I haven't seen one result yet on an RX-7... do you want to spend your money and experiment or would you rather just go with what everyone knows works?

My suggestion is the T04B with a 60-1 compressor wheel, 0.70 compressor housing, P trim exhaust wheel, and 1.00 or 1.15 A/R exhaust housing. (this is also called a T04S a lot of times)

Some people have good results with a T66 but I think it's a tiny bit more lag than the T04S.

GT35/40 is another common turbo that might get you there.

A new entry on the market is the R85 kit offered by KG. I don't know the specs and I also have never seen any results by anyone except the people selling it, so I can't promise it will work, but it can't hurt to check it out for yourself....

If you want to see a bunch of different dynos, check my little dyno site at

Stock ports? Street port? A T04E isn't going to cut it. A T04S might get you there depending on what trim you use. Won't get you that number at 15 psi on anything other then a dyno-jet. Other supporting mods? I recommend a GT35/40.
Here's one for sale cheap!
Also a T04R should get you there.

Yea, a To4B with a 1.00 Ptrim is a nice setup. Personally though I'd put a 62-1 wheel in it. Bryan from BNR has one one his car, it spools really nice and has a nice powerband.

yeah i have a TO4E not sure what trim but at 10psi, stock ported motor, no intake filter just screen and stock mid pipe i put 303 to the wheels. when we increased the boost there wasnt a increase in horse power. so we left it at 10psi. it was also tuned by steve kan.

all in all i believe this turbo will max out around 350-360 to the wheels with a street ported motor, intake filter and mid pipe.

mods that i tuned with are in the sig.

I've also been looking in to the same thing. I'd rather spend another $300 for the GT40R if i'm gunna fork out over $3k on the R85. I have a street port and you didn't mention if you had one. From the reply's i've received the two choices are the 60-1 and the T04S on 1bar of boost.

is that dyno sheet real... the horse power and torque curve is supposed to cross at 5252 rpm.

I don't know what's up with the dyno graph, you are correct the hp and tq are supposed to be equal at 5252.

I didn't notice that, I only posted the thread because it was the first instance that I noticed a T04e putting out 400 hp on a RX-7.

Why the curves don't intersect, I don't know. There was a thread a while back discussing this very same isssue on another graph.

The first ever dyno run I did without any tuning, I made 365 rwhp on a mustang dyno, stock ports(s4), a sick motor, on a t04e 60 trim, boost was below 1 bar, maybe some of you guys have something else wrong somewhere else in the line... I went back into my car, and made some other changes, I now run a s5 partial bridge and have substantially more power than I did when I dyno'd last time, I have it run it at 1 bar now, and as far up as 19 psi, but it won't hold 19 psi past about 6500 rpm, so I am gonna guess that the rwhp limit for the t04e pushed to the absolute limit is about 425-ish range..Max

That dyno is ok, its just scaled funny cause the hp and tq are different values on either side. If you look at 5252 rpms you'll notice they are both right around 300tq and hp so if they were scaled the normal way where the hp and tq were straight across from each other it would cross at 5252

Thanks, Stephen for a more detailed explanation to get through my blockhead. I had read about the scaling but didn't understand why it would affect the x (rpm) axis. Now, I actually SEE how it affects the graph.
