18.5 or 21cm^2 Holset turbine housing for 400rwhp?

Hey guys,

As many of you have read I am doing a 400rwhp HX35 setup. I am unsure of what housing will get me there.

T3 18.5cm^2 housing or the T3 21cm^2 housing?

Here is information about the HX35W: http://www.turbo-mopar.com/forums/vb...&articleid=122

Any good opinion would be greatly appreciated.

both will be able to get you at 400whp.. the 21cm^2 will be slightly slower

If i were you i would have bought a garret gt35r ball bearing turbo

Ya, maybe in the future once I get bored with the holset.

Any ideas on spool time with a LARGE streetport and proper tune?

Not everyone has the money to shell out for an overpriced turbo. The 35R's response is better than the Holset's, but not worth the extra $1000 IMO...

As to the OP, getting to 400 rwhp is going to somewhat tough with the T3 flange on the rotary I think...Can you source a T4 from the HX40 and mate it to the HX35?

I'm personally going with a full HX40, with the 4" inducer and 4" exhaust, T4...using the 19cm housing since I've heard the 21 is kinda big, but smaller than 19 is somewhat small..

Ive already explored the HX40 housing option. I already have the HX35, so I would like to run it. Since I live in Canada on an island, it is a bit harder for me to get an HX40 for a good price... DO you have any contacts where you might be able to source out an HX40?

So i guess in the T3 i will probably want to go with the 21cm housing.. I will portmatch the best that I can, Ive got a tapered T3/T4 flange on order. But that will defiantly not make up for the smaller turbine volume..

Someone on the forum pointed me to him...I'm waiting for him to get the turbo that matches my specs, but hes going to sell a remanufactured one with a 1 year warranty for $550 USD + shipping...not bad at all.

I agree with RRRx7 that both will get you there.

18.5 cm2 imo would be the better choice for your hp goals.

i think the 18 as wel, i run the 16 with a t4 flange and its a little laggy, although when the boost comes in its tire roast city. i also used the same guy as the one smogsux suggested, very cool people.

Not to thread jack, but I have a similar build and a similiar question.

My H1E (HX40) seems to have a 26cm/2 housing.

Am I going to spool this thing?

What are you running for rwhp? How much boost? When does it spool? Stock ports? What ECU?

goes on the dyno tomorrow, i will post sheets in my thread. it spools pretty good, full boost in second around 4800 i would guess, never get much time to look at the gauge. i will look at a data log tomorrow and let you know. its a small street port, im using a haltech e6k.

I ran that hotside until I downsized to a 22cm housing...Yes, you can spool it. I was on stock ports as well.

Where do you hit full boost on the 26 vs the 22?

Awww what? I thought the 19 was really good..that's what I got form the threads I read....the 18 is even laggy? I was hoping to get like 15 psi by 4k....

Give me the FULL rundown on your setup...everything so I can decide on ordering the turbo I was looking at or change the specs I wanted..

I sort of need to know what housing I am going with before I start fabricating my exhaust. From the sounds of it the 18.5 will work, but because it is T3 I have my doubts.

15lbs, that was a 4th gear pull from 2500 to 8000. all plugs were 9's, i am switching to 10's. the car feels great, i didnt put a boost controller on it because the motor isnt pinned and i dont want to f it up.

kinda low, 400 whp is not low, its quite a bit, i have a small street port on a series 4 motor with used housings and used apex seals, stock ignition, stock fuel system except for the pump and a hks cast non divided manifold. i think 400 is pretty awesome.

Well no 400 hp isn't low...I'm just saying I thought the HX40 would put people into the 400's, so I was thinking the HX52 would be like...better?

the hx52 could put me into the high 500s im guessing, i just dont have the supporting mods. i think with some msd boxes and some extra cooling, i could have turned up the boost and made a lot more power.
