You are incorrect, we do custom make the starters. We start with a normal starter and remove all the internals, basically we throw everything away with exception to the nose, then we build the starter with all brand new 2.0 KW parts. This way the customer gets a brand new starter and does not have to send us their core.
Banzai has always been a trustworthy and reputable company. $200 isn't terrible for a starter that requires no core. Sure there's a markup but that's how the guys makes money.
Secondly. if you're having hot start issues, installing a more powerful starter can help but it may be just masking a problem. Its time to have a compression test performed.
RX8 starter nose on left, FC N/A on right. You can return the starter to us and go buy the one at Rochauto. Then you can come back on this thread and complain about our needless markup......Sad!

Yeah, the one you linked to is for an RX-8. The RX-8 starter will work on turbo RX-7's I believe too, although I haven't tried it yet. The flywheels are the same size and tooth number, not sure if the starter casing would cause any problems though.
I did actually buy a 2kw starter from RockAuto without sending them in a core (since mine is an S1 and the 2kw upgraded starter was for an S2) and it was a pretty decent deal. It cranks the motor much better than the original one did, I can tell you that!
The RX8 starter does not work on anything but the RX8. Flywheel is the same but the bell housing is different, the RX-8 starter does not protrude into the FD bell housing enough to catch the flywheel. TII starter nose is completely different.
All RX7 manual trans starters are rated at 1.2kw, only the auto starters are rated at 2.0kw

Thanks for the tip, that's great info to know! I'll be upgrading to your guys's 2kw starter when I redo my car this winter with the PP motor
