I think I'll try the Corbeau FX1 seats and attempt to get them as low as possible. For track days i could remove the bottom cusion Otherwise I may just concede I'm simply too tall for this car in general, let alone with a helmet.
...wow... I feel for you.

Personally I couldn't even stand my FC's stock seat even though it was just my hair scraping the roof. But that's at 5'11"...

If you have a sunroof, you might want to think about spending the money on a conversion, but to do it right would cost a LOT of money. And in fact I'm not sure if you could even get the roof shape of the FD right. You would probably gain almost an inch, more if you removed the headliner.

You're going to have to get a seat that basically goes straight to the floor. This might need some customized rails, and you're going to have to take the cushion out of whatever seat you use. If you removed the carpet under your seat (make sure to save it in case you sell the car, lol), you could get another 1/4-1/2" easily.

Either way, it's not the seat so much as it is the rails. If you get the seat all the way to the floor, that's pretty much it.

In the case of my MR-2, I was fine without a helmet, but I got a generic bucket seat with Bride FG rails, and it ended up being the same or higher than stock, but there was an inch or more of space under my seat, so I took my rails to a tuning shop and they cut/fit/welded them to put the seat on the floor, and I can fit a fist between my hand and head, and everything is LOVELY.

For the record, I have a bucket seat in my FC with Bride FG rails, and I had to drill new mounting holes in the seat to get it to the floor. I used Helicoils and it was fine, but it was a cheap seat... I wouldn't want to drill a $1000 Recaro.

Any suggestions as to which seat rail I should use for a set of Sparco Sprint 5's? I don't mid the ride height going up a little bit, as I'm only 5'5". And have people successfully used this seat with the Autopower 6-point cage? Thanks for any help!

This is provided that no one states that these rails won't work with the seats I'm using...

I read through this entire thread and was wondering if this was just a fit/no fit for FD3S or if this applied to Fc3s as well?

Thought I'd update this to post that I was able to put an UltraShield aluminum road race seat in my car using Atomic Rex mounts (but any good side mount will work). No seat fab required and it fits just fine. Additionally, you will not be able to get lower in any seat that I can feasably think of.

Does anyone know if you can use the Bride Lowmax rails with Corbeau FX1 Pros? Lots of mods needed or simple? Also, any guess on if the seat position would be lowered versus stock with this setup? The regular Corbeau seat and rail raises the seat position slightly.

I'll put some up after I get it back from having the roll bar welded in.

I was wrong in my former post though, the seat did have to be modified to fit to the Atomic Rex mounts, the rear mounting points had to be brought outward about 1/2" on each side. Nice that aluminum seats can be modified that easily. I'm betting if you used Kirky side mounts or the like you wouldn't have any troubles.

To give you an idea of how much lower I was able to get in the car, here's a pic. The passenger is in the stock passenger seat. I'm conservatively 2" taller than the passenger when we're standing next to each other out of the car.

UPDATED 8-22-12

Will fit

1. Stock FD Seats (does this really need to be on the list?)
2. Recaros from the Spirt R
3. Gias Lowmax
4. Bride Zeta III
5. Bride Vios III lowmax
6. Mazdaspeed Type-F
7. Memoryfab s58
8. Corbeau - some models, they supply the custom racks.
9. Sparco Sprint V
10. Recaro Profi and or SPG ( with slight rubbing to the door but not much, if you use Recaro rails instead of bride it will fit fine)
11. Sparco Roadster
12. Sparco EVO with stock seat rail (shoulder bolster will rub on the door)
13. Sparco Milanos
14. Memory FAB S58
15. Recaro Spirit R will fit with AUTO POWER 6 point cage
16. Recaro RS-G (All versions)

Will fit with modifications

1. Corbeau FX1 - fits with seat modification. Corbeau FX1 Install in FD
2. Sparco Evo 2 - - fits with seat modification.
3. Rx-8 seats (can be made to fit by modifying the racks)
4.Cobra Imola (with some minor triming of door side shoulder wing)
5. Sparco Torino 2 (modify the stock rails and get rid of the seat belt buckle they fit (barely))
6. Recaro Sportster CS seats placed on stock rails (tight fit) http://users.telenet.be/sammyrx7/ima...29_JPG_jpg.jpg
7.Bride Vios III lowmax WITH AUTOPOWER 6 POINT CAGE, must notch the side of the frp
bucket for the side bars to fit. Everything else fits!
8. Recaro Pole Positions (HEAVY modification)
9. Recaro R3's RX8 Seats (Custom Rails) Fits perfect, can adjust front to back. Lose plastic gas leaver trim. That is all

Will NOT fit

1. Sparco Fighter
2.Corbeu fx1 pro fit with no problems ,but if you have an autopower 6pt roll cage you won't be able to run the front of the cage because the seat sits high and blocks the halo bars.

Bumping this back up. Anyone know the answer please?

In addition, can you use the Bride lowmax rails with the Recaro Profi or Profi Spa seats? Will this lower the position and make them lower than stock?

David, for the most part you'll be able to mount any side mounted seat with those rails and the side mounts. Non-side mounted seats are the ones which are tricky and usually require custom work.

As for the height, the stock rails are already pretty low so you aren't going to get much savings with a different rail. It will more come down to the seat itself for the height. If height is a concern, ditch the sliding rails and go with a floor mount.

Thanks Mahjik. I guess if the seat isn't low enough for me with the rails, then for tracking I can mount the driver's seat into the floor.

What confuses me is how to do this. Do you use the side mounts (RECARO: Profi) and then just custom fit them into the floor?

And for normal driving, use the side mounts and then attach them to the Low Max sliders? Missing anything?

Recaro and low max rails will cause ur seat to hit on the door cart

I went with Recaro (japan)TS-G and recaro rails. Other than the fact that i believe they are the most beautiful seat, best of all i can find in them comfortably. they are slightly bigger than the SP-G .. While i havent mounted them the previous owner shows me that they dont rub the cart at all

If you are want to remove the seat rails every time u go to the track u might aswell to stick to the stock seats and get an ugly-*** seat that will be only for track

on a side note, Hello David, How have you been dude

If mounting to the floor is an option, contact AtomicRex about their mounts:

AtomicRex - Contact Us
https://www.rx7club.com/group-buy-ce...ricing-948961/

That will be the way to get the best headroom for any side mounted seat. However, if you need to move the seat forwards/backwards, you'll have to go with the Low Max rails and just know there may be clearance issues depending on the seat.

Could you swap back and forth? Anything is doable depending on how much effort you would want to go through. The other thing is that sets like AtomicRex do not have provisions for the stock seat belt holder so they are not technically street legal.

I have a set of the atomic rex rails. Also, he is banned for a reason. I tried unsuccessfully to purchase a set from him a while back and got no response. Ended up finding a used set.

They do not go back far enough for tall people to fit comfortably. Which I find ironic because most people buying those fixed rails need as much room as possible. So I have a set of rails that are useless to me. I will need to make my own.
