I'm interested in buying an engine from them as well. Prices seem too good to be true?

pretty much all jdm motors are garbage, you have a 1/10 chance of it having good compression.

a friend of mine got a jspec motor from tiger direct and put it in his car in new york 2 years ago. From there, he drove it down to miami where he currently lives, and has done countless 300+ mile trips with no problems. he pretty much daily drives it, so we've had a good experience.

I bought mine from them. Front rotor had zero compression and the front iron was corroded thru and leaked into the front chamber. In addition, the reverse switch on the tranny was broken off.

My mistake was not checking the compression the day it arrived. I put it aside and focused on house priorities. If I had, it would have been a $250 shipping loss. So if you order one ask them to send you a compression test report for your engine with the engine number on it and have a battery and compression tester ready so that when it arrives you can check it.

But with a new front iron from Japan2LA and $1000 worth of gaskets, seals and whatnot...

they ripped me off for thousands of dollars and refused to do anything about it. I'm in the process of litigation.

Buyer BEWARE!

unfortunalty as posted above 1 out of 10 motors is good from most jspec places.

I remember checking osaka a few times, and all the motors being pooched one way or another.

So basically you buy jspec and rebuild right after to be sure !

I got an s5 turbo engine and trany from them

the good: the rotors, housings and irons were in good condition

the bad: spending $1000+ for gaskets and apex seals, all the sensors on the engine were garbage, the sensors on the trany had been cut off and the way they sent it pretty much destroyed the oil pan.

Tiger

Hey guys,
I would recommend buying a car from them (they are stupid cheap), but not a motor. When you buy a car, expect to rebuild the whole thing...

Buy a motor...and you just bought a core motor for the 3/4 the price of a quality, pro rebuild.

I got both my 300zx and my FD RX-7 from them. Both motors were bad. Both transmissions were bad.

so you'd recommened buying a car from them even though the motors and transmissions are bad?

FWIW, they don't sell cars anymore. I put an end to that. At least temporarily.

Lets back up for a second... 1 in 10 jap import motors are NOT bad... I used to be into hondas for a while, after owning several rwd jap cars, and now have switched back to rotary for life... any way, I have installed at least 20+ "jdm" honda motors with NO problems whatsoever. Rotaries are just the exception, not the rule, lets be honest, rotary motors don't like to sit for 1/2/3/4+ years in a wrecking yard and get dropped in and started... the apex seals will freeze up and when you go to start it, their DONE.

Thats not to say that ALL "jdm" rotaries will suffer this same fate, but most will. Another problem with buying japanese turbo motors is the fact that they are low mileage... "WTF??!!" "Blasphemy!" yes its true, for one thing turbo motors don't last as long as a NA motor, for two if OUR government required the car to be scrapped after 30-60k miles I'd beat the snot out of it till its time for it to go...

just my two pennies.

Then they are too good to be true.

I realize with older n/a rx7's it's a bit of a different story, but everytime an FD guy tells me about how he wasted his money and time on installing a junk JDM motor, I just shake my head. It's pay me now or pay me later guys.......
