Some people have great experiences with engine importers, some have very bad experiences with the same guys. Japan2LA is more or less the only fully backed RX-7 engine importer.

But compression alone won't tell you how long the engine will last. If you're seriously considering buying a JDM engine, you also need to seriously consider the fact that it may be DOA, run great, or fall anywhere in between. There is no way to tell for sure without pulling the engine apart. You can guess by looking at the mileage or whatever, but in the end it's just russian roulette.
Many people buy imported engines and plan to rebuild them before installation. What's that say?
If you're just looking for a replacement engine, get a local one and save yourself some money. If you just want that 'OMGz i gotz JDM partz" effect then you're stupid.
