Full underbody for the FD

Would anyone besides me be interested in something similar to the Ferrari 599XX under-tray?? It covers the entire underbody, and ends with a diffuser in the rear. I know shine already has one that goes under the front bumper, and one that comes out the rear as well. I'm just hoping to get one that covers the entire thing made.
Fender vents that work in conjuction with the front bumper would be nice too.

was going to build one for my car with some custom ducting, but that wont be for awile

Wouldn't be too fun to remove that thing every time you're under there. Even for an oil change.

I personally find it annoying and unnecessary. Why? I work on BMWs and Audi everyday and I get sick of taking those panels off. And you recommend a COMPLETE under tray? I would like to hear the reason behind it. Don't be offended, I just wanted to clarify thats all. Because I would HATE to take it off every time for some maintenance work.

Unless, it has some opening that could be closed via couple screws to oil changes, coolant fluid changes etc. But that would be too much to accommodated for because too many of us have after-market parts and the location of these openings would also be different.

What's in the middle and rear on the underside of the car that you need to frequently maintain?

My original thought was that since shine is already making the front undertray and a rear diffuser they could just fill the middle with a third piece. The reason is simply to reduce the under car drag co-effecient. The FD is slippery, but there has always been room for improvement as with most things. I agree that there would have to be some way to access the fluids, but if it's three pieces that fit together smoothly. I don't think it would be so bad .... But I'd personally prefer access ports.
In addition to reducing drag a full tray could enhance cooling as well as down force. Basically if the extra air has no choice but to flow out of brake ducts or up through your front or v-mount and radiator then out your vented hood that would be a bonus without really adding much weight . It's a volume and pressure thing right??? it would be forcing more air into a tighter smaller space because of the increased air pressure. I mean it only has one way to get out of the engine bay at this point.
Now downforce should be self explanatory. a solid undetray increases the vacuum under the car, pulls it closer to the ground. So, increased stability at speed., potentially better cooling, definately would look better than some aero-modifications and it protects the bottom of the car again without adding much weight. I mean there is a reason they do that in formula 1 and pretty much ever serious racing organization.

Well alot of mods we do to our cars aren't really for the street or used often while daily driving. why not one more? It would probably increase gas mileage slightly also and everyone on this board wants more of that.

Funny, I had been starting to plan out a full underbody for my FD over winter. A great idea, but I don't think it's very feasible for Shine to make a generic underbody. It's a pretty custom piece and must take into account custom exhaust pipes as well as proper cooling and heat management for the transmission, rear diff, exhaust, wastegate dump and engine area. Even if Shine did make a generic one, by the time you had modified it enough to work exactly with your setup, you most likely would have spent less time making your own from scratch.

Matt, that is it exactly. If anyone takes the time to look at the link you'll see what I mean about the third piece. Also I think there is enough room to fit a 3.5 or 4in exhaust if it's designed right. Wastegates could be drilled out with a hole saw for a custom instillation. Personally I prefer through the lower fender.

Ive been thinking about it. its definitely possible. Our 3 piece front undertray has the middle section easily removable for oil changes.

There are replicas of the GTC kit already available no?


I've been thinking about building the ultimate rear bumper/diffuser combination for the FD for a few months now.

something similar to this, but keeping the FD3S/Rotary theme...



If we ever worked on this project, I was considering doing a full underbody to go with it.

do it!! you already know ill be the 1st one willing to track and try.. ill even max it down the 110 freeway like i normally do lol.

that would be sick though. maybe in junction like a 4 piece set so you can have the option to work on certain parts of the underbody if needed.
