FD3S: RE-Amemiya AD GT w/ 05 version front bumper. Coming very soon.

Perhaps a bit pre-mature, but I am posting just to get the word out there our version of the RE-Amemiya AD GT w/ 05 Version Front Bumper will be coming out VERY soon. We've been working on this for several months now as there are quite a bit of pieces involved. We replicated off an original RE-Kit if anyone is curious. The molds are 95% done and we should be producing the very first set within the next 2 weeks.

As many already know, we're definitely not the first to offer a replica of this version (except for the rear fenders). We're probably the 5th company to do so with most replicas being manufactured in China and shipped from China. However, I am confident the FD community will be happy with our version when it comes to putting a quality replica on your car.

I will reveal more details in the coming weeks, but so far, this is what we have to offer:

1. Front Bumper
2. Front Fenders
3. Sideskirts
4. Rear fenders (slope down version as pictured on the white car below). Most replicas are of the fuller version (as pictured on the blue car below), which we also plan to offer depending on demand.
5. Front Canards in FRP or Carbon/Kevlar.

Front fenders, sideskirts, and rear fenders can only be matched up with each other. You can't really mix and match these with other designs. However, the front fenders can match up to any OEM-fitting type front bumper.

My impressions of the original RE-Amemiya version. Good quality construction, which is typical of parts made in Japan. Front fenders, sideskirts, and rear fenders are fairly light weight and cleanly constructed, which can't be said for most replicas on the market. The fitment of the front fender, sideskirts, and rear fenders fit very well on the car, with some careful adjustments needed to fit attach the front portion of the sideskirts to the bottom of the front fenders. Front bumper was also well constructed, but certainly on the heavier side. When fitted against the RE Fenders, fitment was about 90-95%. Fitment against an OEM hood along the front hood line was horrible. Quite a bit of gap needed to be covered. I believe if you pay attention to enough pictures of kits installed in Japan, you will notice the hood gap. It could be a bad fitting after-market hood, but since we fitted against an OEM hood, we confirmed the issue is with the bumper. We also fitted, the bumper against factory fenders. Fitment was very off. The way it was designed/produced around the edges was too thick making it very difficult to fit. If the bumper was installed with RE-fenders, it should fit fine enough for a bodyshop to correct with ease. With any other fenders, the bumper becomes a real issue. We've corrected all these issues . I will upload our installation experience in the next few days.

Current Yen to USD rate is about 100 to 1. According to RE-Amemiya's site, here are the prices:

??????????

3 piece set. Front fenders, Sidesteps, Rear fenders $2100.

??????????

05 Front bumper. $980

??????????

Carbon Fiber Front Bumper Canards. $320

That's a total of $3400 before Japanese Sales Tax.

Add about $1000-$1500 for air freight cost, duties, customs, brokerage from Japan.

If you can get the RE-Amemiya pieces for $2000 shipped. Jump on it.

Ken

If anyone chooses to go authentic, here are some pictures of what to expect as promised. Right out of the box.

1. There were some voided spots where not enough material was laid around the edge that meets the fenders on both sides. This area is very narrow and difficult to get material into. Most manufacturers will have a hard time in these areas, including ourselves, but we do our best to pay extra attention. I am not saying this will be the case every time this bumper is ordered from Re-Amemiya, but just showing what we received. Even parts from Japan can have mistakes. Easy fix by a competent body shop, but they will have to line it up against factory fenders to get the correct shape. Time consuming, but straight forward.

2. FRP canards were quite wavy. We had to correct that issue since we were planning on offering quality carbon pieces.

Everything else was fine as mentioned earlier.

As mentioned in our first post, we had a hard time fitting the bumper to factory fenders. The factory fender required a slim/narrow/sharp edge on the bumper to sit properly, while the original Re-Amemiya bumper had a thick edge. It caused the bumper's edge to sit raised against the front fenders. To get a nice clean flush transition, we had to fuse an OEM spec edge/tab onto the bumper. There was also a huge gap between the top of the bumper and the bottom of the hood, which we had to fill in quite a bit to close. The bumper now sits flush with the hood with a tight gap for an OEM-fit look. If we're going to replicate, we might as well ensure our product is overall better and at a more affordable pricing point if possible. I can assure potential customers, our bumper will have a better fit, durability, and weight performance than the original version.

The next step was to ensure the modified bumper fit well with the RE-Amemiya front fenders and vice versa.

The next step was to ensure the mounting points of the sideskirts and front fenders matched up properly to allow the fenders to sit correctly. FD Rx7's are old cars with questionable history, so holes can always be a little off. Adjustment is easy, but since I know my car is a clean/non accident car, I wanted to use mine as a starting point. We made sure the gap between door and fender was as tight as possible, while still allowing the door to swing open with safe clearance. Gap between hood and fenders was just about right out of the box.

High and low spots (waviness) were then corrected. Fenders now sit pretty flush with an OEM hood.

Sideskirts gave us no issues and matched up well with the rear fenders. We had a hard time checking the fitment of the rear fenders on my car as I have my fenders pulled and the RE-Fenders would hit my flares. However, we were able to double-check the rear fenders on another car and everything fit fine.

So in conclusion, the RE-Amemiya pieces are of great quality. I believe most will be satisfied with their front fenders, rear fenders, and sideskirts. Front bumper fitment is definitely questionable. I believe most will be bothered by the gap between the bumper and the hood. RE Fenders mated to RE bumper sits well along the fenders (but will still show hood gap). RE bumper to any other fenders... customers will most likely have a hard time.

Our version will be out soon. Expect the final pieces to fit just like the pictures show with the corrections we made.

Do you have any details available on the front and rear fender widths compared to stock?

Re-Amemiya's site lists the rear at 15mm, which I think is about right. It is certainly not as wide as the Feed rear fenders, which are listed at 25mm. I can't find any info on the front, but I have heard it is 20mm wide. That sounds about right as well. It's definitely not as wide as the Feed front fenders, which are also listed at 25mm. 15mm wide would be too less for the front and from my experience with wide fenders, it looks like a 20mm. If anyone cares to confirm...

RE Hood will be tricky. We still need to finish our Feed hood project. If enough of these kits sell, I'll consider the RE Hood, but that is also a start from scratch project. Last time I checked, the original RE hoods were far from fitting to my standards (which is as close to OEM as possible).

Just standard bodyfiller aka Bondo. Every shop has their own preference. It is really all the same thing. Some are just easier to sand than others.

This is our expected pricing point. We already have 1 set on order and a 2nd one pending. Pics of the first batch will be posted as soon as we're done.

Front Fenders. FRP reinforced with structural carbon. $450

Rear Fenders. FRP reinforced with structural carbon. $450

Sideskirts. Hybrid FRP (flexible). This can be ordered in standard FRP (fiberglass) just like the original Re-Amemiya version if you need the sideskirts to be stiff for whatever reason. $350.

So. Front fenders + sideskirts + rear fenders = $1250

Front Bumper. Hybrid FRP (flexible). Can also be made in standard FRP upon request. $650

Canards for front bumper:

FRP $150

Carbon $250 (Choose between Plain or Twill Weave Carbon. Re-Amemiya version comes standard in Plain Weave Carbon)

Carbon-Kevlar. $300 (Choose between Plain or Twill Weave Carbon Kevlar)

So about $2150 (w/ Carbon Front Canard option) + shipping.

Shipping is $165 to a business or $185 to residential for all items in one box to the lower 48 states.

Email for quote on shipping of individual pieces. For the track guys who are concerned about damage panels, we can sell just one side of an item for half the price. We've done this for many years now. I am not going to force you to buy a pair of fenders if you only need one side .

Email or call if you have any further questions.

Damn. A few years too late for me. I still don't have a hood, though..... so add me to the list for those interested for a hood. Good to know that I can get replacement parts close by if something were to happen.

Hey guys. We're still working on the first production bumper. It is the most difficult piece to produce out of the set. I promised updates with pictures, so here goes. We have the first pair of rear fenders from the new mold.

As mentioned earlier, the front and rear fenders are FRP (fiberglass) reinforced with carbon fiber for added strength while giving a more robust and cleaner feel on the backside. This is a much stronger piece than the original RE-Amemiya fenders given the same weight. Our products are also made with a sandable primer coat vs a gel coat for easier paint prepping. Easier to sand than gel coat. Primer will also adhere better to primer vs gel coats.

Attached are pictures of our version. The last picture shows the original RE-Amemiya fenders constructed purely out of fiberglass for comparison. We're offering a better product at a fraction of the price. The chinese-made replicas won't come close to what we're offering.

It is also important to mention the rear fender gas cap has to be custom fitted by a shop.

Fitment pictures of the first batch. Driver's sideskirt was removed before I could get a picture, but rest assured, fitment it spot on. I will snap pics of the carbon canards tomorrow. Sideskirts can be ordered with the bottom section (step section) carbon accented for extra. We already have a few kits on order, so it will be some time before we can produce a carbon accented side to show. We're moving forward with production now that we've verified fitment quality. I will also weigh the pieces if anyone is curious. Should be lighter than the original RE pieces, particularly the front bumper.
