Hey guys. I have an update. I apologize as I had promised pics sooner.

We've ran into a bit of a problem and "now" I can see why other sunroofs available on the market have fitment issues. If I recall correctly, the FC3S oem sunroof replacement currently on the market is not disireable because of fitment issues correct?

This project is a bit harder than I thought. Before we started the project, I did not see how a company could mess up on fitment on such a small and simple looking part. The problem with composite materials vs metal is that is very difficult to get a thin laminate and be as structurally solid as a metal piece. The problem arises when we adhere the top of the sunroof with the bottomside (part that is seen inside car) of the sunroof. The composite material is too thick to allow a tight adhesion causing the sunroof to be thicker than its metal oem counterpart. Its not THAT bad, but I have a few adjustments/solutions, which I think can get it close to OEM spec. I like parts fitting and sitting nicely so be assured we are trying our best to get this right.

In the meantime, here are a fews pics of the first one made. It is made of Carbon Kevlar .

Here are pics on a car. I did not bolt these down so the actual fitment is not as bad as it looks. Bolting them down would improve the visuals obviously, but we are still aiming for better fitment.

Here are underside pics of our version of the sunroof. The center portion, which can seen from the inside of the car, has been flattened out. The perimeter is not seen when bolted.

vs.

OEM

Here's a pic of it on a car from a distance. Once we can get the better one made, I'll bolt it down tight and take a few better pics.

Ken,

It doesn't look that bad, maybe its because of the angle of the pics, or maybe is because you are been ****

Ken,

Since you are to the point where you are doing final fittings do you have an idea yet of a release date? I have been a troll in this thread since the beginning and it looks like you are close to the final product.

Second one came out really good. Problem solved. I should have this constantly in production today. We can only crank out 2.5 per week.

Would you be able to get part weights of each model once you have a sample of each?

The FRP you are using, is it glass matt reinforced with a more flexible resin or some other material? I take it the carbon and Kevlar are a standard weave with polyester resin(?) and a wet-layup? (or vacuum bagged?) Any gelcoat? Polishing?

Any laminate core material? or just enough layers to be appropriately stiff/strong?

Will we have to worry about further curing & warpage in the sun?

Thanks in advance for the info, I just want to make sure I know what I'm getting for the non-trivial $$.

Ken I still have headliner clips from the last time you asked. I thought
that someone else gave them to you already, but told you I'd send you
some. How many do you need? Which part (M/F?) do you need, or both?

Lemme know dude. I can't use em' anymore.
