Why should I move to Florida.......
rather than Colorado? Besides the warm weather? I am considering moving to the Melbourne area because that is where my industry is.
So, I need someone to convince me why Florida is a better place to live than Colorado. Go.........

"Go Speed Racer (plays theme song)!" lol sorry i just had too xD
I really don't know the Melbourne area, but FL itself is a pretty nice place to live except...
Our driver's are kinda "bleh" especially the farther south you drive i.e. Ft. Lauderdale and even more so in Miami. I would know, have a good friend of mine who goes to school in Miami and my girlfriend lives in Ft. Lauderdale and everytime im down there i get so annoyed by all the shitty drivers that come from Miami to live farther north cuz there's no room down there. But then again it could just be because of the tourists.
Im not sure how bad traffic is there but it's almost always kinda jammed in Orlando and Miami. And sometimes it stays too warm in the winter, still in the low 80's til mid-end November.
Pros
Living expenses aren't really killer, schools are pretty good, everything's within reach or driving distance, beaches down south are great, and semi-country scenery up north is also pleasant.
Houses are pretty affordable (like much of the country), it's fairly friendly depending where you're at and i know i might get flamed but there's kind of a large ghetto or wannabe gangster population in all major cities of florida so there's no escaping that. So if you're cool with that then you'll find most of everyone else is pretty friendly and diversified.
There's plenty of restaurants, attractions, and games normally. But since you live in Melbourne it'll be a good 40min to hour drive to reach places like Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale/Miami. If you live farther north like say Jacksonville which is a lot larger (land-wise) it's fun but after living here for almost all my life im kinda bored lol.
Sorry if all this sounds pretty general and typical of a Florida description T_T
If you have any specific questions ill try to answer them (btw my dad's a realtor so even though i live farther north if you need any help with house you know who to pm)

I don't know anything about CO, but no emmisions is a BIG plus for any RX7 owner. Moving there from VA to attend school I pretty much saw that,
Radar detectors
Nice *** weather
Escape from the crazy No.VA FFX law enforcement
Autox/track season all year round
Cons: lack of deserted twisty back roads (at least from what I've heard)?

Well i doubt he'll find many twisty roads here in FL or real tracks for that matter lol. Unless he likes drag or he lives farther north where there's like one or two decent small areas here in jax but nothing too special. But i could be wrong.
Which is a big reason why i would kinda like to live farther north one day probably

I really don't know much about florida but i recently relocated from ohio to alabama and i live on the gulf coast and i'm a hour away from florida. The south in general is alot more relaxing than up north and i sick of snow (its a pain with the rx) but i enjoy it alot more than up north. Florida is a lil too crowded for my taste though. I'm glad i made the move down here

Hmmmm.... I grew up in Az, but got transplanted here by the Navy. I'd really like to move back out west (Colorado Springs) but my wife and I have good jobs here. There are alot of back roads here, but not very twisty. Fun if you want to run wide open for a stretch, but kinda boring. Up in Atlanta or further north , lots of twisties.
I hate the humidity here. But that's just me.

Bill

Thanks for the replies.....
I lived in Tampa for about 4 years 12 years or so ago. I have been back a couple of times since and tons of things have changed. I have never really lived on the east coast and things are much more touristy over there or so it seems to me. I love Florida, but I need to find things to do to occupy my time.
Thats why I am considering Colorado Springs. Tons of outdoor activities! I love climbing, hiking, yada yada yada. There is not so much of that in Florida. There is however scuba diving and like activities, but I think I might get bored. The wife definitely prefers Florida, but I could consider going either way.

Ive lived in Cocoa Beach my whole life and I love it. Its about 10 mins away from Melbourne. Theres tons to do, basically any sort of watersport and its only 45 mins to an hour away from Orlando where theres tons to do including all the theme parks. No snow, which is great. Personally, I love snow and snowboarding but I can only handle it for so long. It sucks having to put on layers and layers of clothing just to go outside. In Florida, shorts and a t-shirt and youre good to go.

Lived here for 25 years. First of all Jax. is not really living in FL. Big city... Not far enough south for a true subtropical climate. I went to school there for a year. Didnt feel like Fl. to me. Titusville to Ft. Lauderdale is a good choice. Not terribly crowded until Ft. Lauderdale/West Palm. The beaches are great! There are alot of tracks within a few hours drive.. (Daytona/ Moroso/ Sebring etc.) Lower cost of living. Decent weather ( a bit hot in the summer). Worth that for the mild winters. Overall nice people in that area as well. No emissions. Just an opinion. G

I was born and raised in NYC and loved , but being in Ft Lauderdale, well I can say, the only things I miss about NYC is its great eats and places open 24 hours.
Florida has been great weather and parking lol. Just getting used to everything spred out and no big buildings for refrrence points is still annoying to me lol.

Any one on the coast a diver? I wonder how the scuba diving is? Skydivers? I need things that keep me busy.
On the Colorado note, I think the cost of living is probably much cheaper other than central Florida.

Well housing and living is actually quite expensive in South Florida (Broward county on down) Stay as far away from Miami as possible, except for a few places Miami is dirty and packed. Fort Lauderdale is getting bad now too but it is better then Miami (not so packed, traffic is not as bad its spaced out a little better plus if you want to go to south beach it isnt too far away) Orlando is cheaper to live but for some reason it feels kind of country still, which isnt bad. If you cant find outdoor activities to do here (hello!! sunshine year round!!) then you are crazy, scuba diving is nice, there is also, deep sea fishing, sailing, bass fishing in the glades, camping, mountain biking (There are some great places if you know where to look believe it or not) hunting, sky diving, car racing of all types, drifting is getting big.
I might be biased but I would rather live in Florida then Colorado, I dont think I could ever get used to the cold, especially commuting and living life in the snow and ice.

I used to commercial dive out of Ponce Inlet (daytona area) I run a privately owned sportfisher and make quite a few dives in the 75 to 130 ft. range. The visibility here averages 25 feet. Alot better in the summer months (60 to top to bottom vis.). Although spearfishing is better in the winter months. There are plenty of wrecks and natural reefs in all depths here. I love the variety. Also the spiny lobster harvesting is wondeful. They average 3 to 5 pounds off our coast. G

I almost forgot about this thread. When I lived in Tampa in the mid 90's they had smog testing. Did they just decide to get rid of it or do some areas have it and some do not?
I understand that there are plenty of hot silicone women in Florida, but I doubt the wife will allow that kind of fun.
The diving does sound quite fun though. I need to buy a boat!

I've lived in Colorado and Fl.
Used to snow ski over 100 days a year(lived in Breckenridge) but its the only game in town. Most of Co. is just like Nebraska, you have to get near the front range for any thing interesting. It can be expensive depending on where you want to live.
Wife chose Fl., I'm in St Pete Bch. No emission testing anymore. 4 race tracks in the state. Melbourne is about as central as you can get to reach all 4 easy. East coast is a little more uptight than west coast but that area isn't anything like farther south. Cheap trips to the Bahamas any anywhere in the Caribbean. I don't know about diving the east coast but there is only sand in the Gulf for the most part. The Keys and Tortugas are nice for fin fun.
I've been in Fl going on 12 years now, I can fly to Denver for a ski fix in a few hours and I get to wear shorts year round.
+1 for Fl
