Thanks for the luck johny We will be needing it.

And for the record, we never attacked the dragon hard in our trip. Our motor just wasn't doing well on high rpm's from what we could tell and neither Stina nor I are comfortable pushing our cars on a public road with trees and mountain on one side and a cliff on the other, lol.

Secondary's on the carb seem to have not opened right leading to detonation...several other possibilities, but basically, it was continued high rpm(which is about all a rotary can go through the mountains with, for torque reasons) that did the motor in. The decision seems to be pretty final. 350 sbc carb'd with a t-5 tranny(T-56 if we can find one cheap in good condition).

It'll be awhile before we can afford to do the swap on the fb, considering we're looking at buying a house we saw today, but it will get done eventually. Can anyone say "open to close" at work for awhile? lol

Here's a couple pics of the house we saw today. We only posted the most important pics...the garage and driveway. If we get this we have a place for tech days now Everyone pray for us please

Sorry I couldnt hang around when i saw you up there. That was the third time the cop had yelled at me for hanging around there. He was a serious dick to me Jon and Rebecca. We drove by the car and parked at the next turn off to walk back. Moment we got there he started with an attitude towards us. I asked if he knew who the driver was, he told me no, its none of my business, and to leave. Came back later and he waved me by and made some remark i missed over my exahust. Then there was him yelling at me when I stopped to talk to you.

Glad you made it out ok. Looks like the damamge is pretty minimal. Fenders arent very expensive, and you should be able to find a lower a arm at a junkyard for next to nothing. I vote rebuild it.

Johny, what do you mean by this post?

Should we be banned from DGRR as well because we blew our engine? It's not like we wouldn't have blown the 12a at VIR instead. Joey wrecked because he lost control. Anyone can have an accident. Nobody is perfect. Now Joey has been banned from DGRR for a mistake anyone could have made.

EDIT: Also, for the record, I wasn't driving when the 12A blew. I've only driven it the one time through the dragon on Thursday over the past 1 or 2 months. I think the poor FC cast a curse on the FB since we left her behind.

In happier news, Operation: Thick Shaft should be underway this weekend. This new driveshaft should be able to support the engine swap I've been secretly planning with this car this whole time. HA! Nobody saw this coming! I found a donor car on the internet:

"Aside from being used for internal combustion engines, the basic Wankel design has also been utilized for air compressors, and superchargers for internal combustion engines, but in these cases, although the design still offers advantages in reliability, the basic advantages of the Wankel in size and weight over the four-stroke internal combustion engine are irrelevant. In a design using a Wankel supercharger on a Wankel engine, the supercharger is twice the size of the engine.

Perhaps the most exotic use of the Wankel design is in the seat belt pretensioner system of some Mercedes-Benz cars[4] and the Volkswagen New Beetle. In these cars, when deceleration sensors sense a potential crash, small explosive cartridges are triggered electrically and the resulting pressurized gas feeds into tiny Wankel engines which rotate to take up the slack in the seat belt systems, anchoring the driver and passengers firmly in the seat before any collision."

Taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wankel_engine . Dunno if everyone here is familiar with the history.

If you don't need the rear wing I could use it on my riding lawnmower.

Even better. I think this engine swap will give me even more torque.

I might also use that for additional seating. I just have to attach it to the back of my car and put some seatbelts on it.

Plan on checking out other episodes. Tempted to order a region free DVD player and order the season 1 and 2 DVDs from Amazon UK.

'I'm Old Gregg!!"
Yeah I've watched several full episodes now, and the 6 minute "best of moments" vid, that's hilarious! But the Old Gregg episode...it was weird enough with Old Gregg, but it got WAY weird talking about The Funk and Bootsy Collins making a funk shake, HAHAHA. I'm also tempted to order a compatible DVD player. I looked on Amazon and they only had two used copies, no new ones. I'll have to check Amazon UK.

i don't think johny was posting a direct insult to anyone. unwad your panties

*replacing long post with these cliff notes*

cliff notes:
-if you want to go to DGRR, go for it!
-remember it isn't a HPDE. don't go out there to drive 10/10.
-accidents happen, but the situations we put ourselves in can make them more likely to happen
-very glad everyone came back okay, even if some of the cars didn't

Josh that was very well put.
I will still elaborate.

Chrstina/David; You take a car with 160k to run through the gap at high RPM's 6 or so hrs to get there, volenteer to be Group leader. ( Questionable car, with questionable driving skills) a couple times through the gap. And your bigest concern is that you left your driving shoes home. And you wonder how can I make a post like that.

Maybe that 60-80 dollars would have been better spent on car maintence. I dont knock any one for the type or condition of ther vehicle (mine is on jack stands now).
I think this is probably the reason Bert is out. Us older folks think of the concequences first.

On Joeys accident
"It could of happen to anyone"
It didn't happen to
Greg
Me
Josh
Eric
Phil
Bert
Do I need to keep on?

Im glad no one got hurt, And Joey I wish you the best and Hope you come away from this learning some thing.

Its Like nowing you are going to a bar, saying you are going to get drunk!
All that is fine but you need to be prepared, have a driver have some friends with you ect.
If you go to the bar knowing you are drinking heavly, get into a fight, get thrown out by a burley bouncer, wreck the car on the way out, get arrested, spend the night in jal. ect..... Get the picture..... it all could have been avoided with a little pre thought ( end of sermon)

i must be getting on in age, because cause this train of thought is starting to make more and more sense to me. i just can't speed on public roads anymore. i am paranoid the whole time, cops, other people, potholes, dead animals. i think like Johny mentioned, when you get older you start thinking more about the consequences.

i won't claim to know Joey's driving skill. He has always seemed at least competent to me, but I think the mistake was in going out there with new suspension. It changed the cars setup. The car probably went from a pretty nuetral/slight understeer, to a car with tendency to oversteer. There was no break in time for the driver. Sorry I don't mean to put salt on the wounds. I am sure Joey has thought about this over and over in his mind.

as far as the motor going. the only thing i can say is; damn rotaries are to picky. if you are going to drive one you gotta, gotta, make sure they are running right. especially fuel. lean on a piston engine, causes problems. lean on a rotary, causes destruction. the way you find out you have a problem with a rotary, is after it is too late, often times.

johny, don't pick on driving shoes I have a set myself, and still haven't set foot on a track. i don't leave home without them.

EDIT: considered deleting this to slow the ensuing argument, but what the hell, i will let it ride.

Well, I counter your counter-arguement and raise you an anti-arguement. We are having a heated agreement again.

i counter your anti-counter-counter-argument with a tongue lashing the likes of which you will never forget, with slurs about things that offend you.

i say we make up, by going to the drag strip, then the strip club. like a super strippering day or something.

EDIT: seriously, we need to go out and hit a Sunday, or Freaky Friday, down in F'ville. Also, when do you start at GSK?

Sounds like a plan! No word on orders yet. Monday I thought I was basically told I was going to either Little Rock, AR or Valdosta, GA, but then I was told it wasn't for sure yet, so it's still up in the air. If they told me I was going to Raleigh I'd be alright, haha. I don't really forsee that happening though.

I'm down for the Sunday/Freaky Friday down here too. Not sure about the strip club though, we may have to go to Raleigh or somewhere to get a good one. The only decent one around here that I know of is Secrets. We could either hit Freaky Friday for a while THEN go to the club or we could go to the club on Saturday night, stay the night at my place, then go to the track Sunday. Up to y'all.

And I'll be damn if we have another heated agreement...FINISH HIM!!!!

Greg, we need some input about good strip joints. Care to give us some of your wisdom.

Eric, GA I can handle, might actually be able to see you from time to time. anything further than that and i am going on strike. not sure how that would effect the air force, but who knows. They are one of our contracts. They would face the wrath of my strike for sure.
