Thanks for the info. We could do the Char Grill on Edwards Mill for a meet site on weekends when the weather is questionable and have the parking garage for a meet site when its raining. What do you think. Could we designate this as our back up location and have it understood by all that is the site when we have bad weather? Or would that confuse people. After all we have to be a pretty smart group, as a whole, since we have to keep our cars running and performing at their best.

Seems as tho the rain kinda killed the day. GTUser and I were the only ones to show, although as soon as I left, I saw a green S5 coming up the road. About 4pm I took a ride over to the HPjunkies meeting place on Atlantic and that was a no-show as well. Oh well, maybe next week it wont be pouring all day.

i just now saw this thread... it would be much more convinent for me if we could have them on saturday nights instead of during the day cus i have to work pretty much every saturday till 6. I'm sure i'm not the only one that has to work, but then again, you have to wory about the other people that aren't so local. Food for thought...

If I may, since I more or less expected to hear this having been in the "car meeting" business for a while.

Hopefully, this won't come across the wrong way, if it does, my apologies in advance...

1) You show up at a meeting because you are a car aficionado. If your car is on jackstands, so be it. You show up to the meeting and complain that your car is broken and get someone to help get it fixed. Don't want to drive your car in inclement weather? We only cancel meetings because of precipitation in freezing temperatures (because most of us don't have Blizzaks on a spare set of wheels to maneuver around the SUV's that beach themselves in poor weather) and for other large weather events.

At our meetings, you show up in whatever you can, and you call someone up to give you a ride out if you have to. Some folks only have purpose-built completely street illegal Mazda racecars. We expect to see the Mazda towing vehicle/support vehicle/otherThanMazda (preferably another Mazda) and will think no less of them. Show up in the Camry (or in my Honda Civic gas sipper many years ago) and expect a little ribbing, but nothing severe. Better that you showed up than stayed at home.

2) Stop squibbling about meeting times. You will never find a time to please everyone. Those who care enough to come out on a consistent basis will find a way to adjust their schedule. Betcha you pick a time and the next time you announce a meeting, someone will be interested, and won't be able to attend because of the meeting time.

3) Setting up a meeting is not easy. Only two people showed up.

4) Those who didn't drive because it rained, well, I don't know any other way to put it but not "gently": you are wusses. See above - you should have driven up in the Camry and expected some ribbing.

4a) I've driven my 3rd gen in rain, sleet, and snow. Oh yeah, I've driven it on a race track in rain, sleet, and snow and I know I'm not Mario Andretti. Learn to control your feet and hands! It's like saying you aren't going to go outside because you are made of sugar. No you aren't! If you have bald tires, uhm, call TireRack, because you are going to fail the state inspection anyhow...
4b) If you are keeping the car in hiding because you are afraid it is going to get dirty, you better not be talking about a car cover with the car living outside...it had better be in a garage.
4c) Leaks? Bullpuckey. I drive a "mature" Miata. You have nothing on the convertible crowd! Having said that, I defer to my elders in British convertibles to tell you all about leaks, because they take the cake compared to me. Go to the meeting, get some help, fix the leak, drive in the rain without leaks!

5) Your 3rd gen is a not a Ferrari, as much as you would like it to be.

It is better than one in many ways.

It handles almost as good as something that costs many times more and (hopefully) you can actually afford to drive it on the road. Unless you have a 3rd gen with less than 5000 miles, it is no longer a collecter's item and you should drive it any opportunity you can. Why buy something and not enjoy it (ugh, that's been me for the past months since I put the mine on jackstands to fix it).

That said - unless it is a $1,000,000+ Ferrari (they generally are the new $200,000 or less, or some older valuable car) I would be driving the snot out of that thing and not letting it sit in a garage. I plan to do that one day.

My paltry excuse, somewhat inexcusable since I should have known better to replace all the hoses (I was planning on doing it when I got the RX-7 running):

At least my car was broken down on the side of the road. I paid my penance. I got greasy and drenched fixing it, and by the time I had something driveable, I was still in Durham and it was past 3:00pm...

I'm sure Bert is quiet because deep down he is probably dissapointed in y'all. I would be too and have been there before.

Anyhow, that's enough stirring of the ashes for now...

i fall into the garage & car cover crowd(i.e. in the garage under a car cover). is it a ferrari? NO! does that mean that I am going to drive it in the rain if I can help it? NO!

I have driven rear drive cars all my life in all kinds of weather. I have even drive on a wet racetrack before. It is not about being worried about having the car lose control or some nonsense. I just choose not to drive it in the rain. I do it because I have that choice, as it is my 3rd car and just a toy.

Now you have a point; I suppose I could have gone in another car just to show support, and in that respect I wish I would have gone.

First Raleigh RX 7 meet

We held the first meeting this past Saturday and had 2 owners and 2 RX7s in attendence. We started at 2:00 pm and finished up about 3:20 pm. Visago Dave brought his 86 FC and I drove my 89 FC. It did rain off and on the entire time but we used the time to get to know one another and take a look at each others cars.

I had the Mazdaspeed Oil Filler Cap just in case we hit the dozen mark, but we fell a little short. In the future we have an alternate site for meetings when bad weather threatens, the parking deck behind the Wachovia Building on Blue Ridge Rd near the Fairgrounds. There is also a Char Grill in the vicinity so that those who want to eat before hand will have that available to them.

I am sorry you had trouble Ashraf, hope to see you at one of our future meets. I wanted to remind everyone that we will be meeting each Saturday in May and then we will cut back to even dated Saturdays after that. If 6:00 pm or later is good for some, I can schedule a meeting for 6:30 pm if that will work. I think we should settle on one meeting time just to avoid confusion. Remember these are going to be informal drive in meetings for all sho can make it.

It would help me if anyone that has a problem or some questions about your 7 to email it so that the others in attendence will have some time to prepare for the help you need. We can all learn something about our cars if we can take an interest in each others' problems.

See ya on Saturday at the Char Grill on Strckland Rd unless it rains again, then we'll meet on Edwards Mill. Eating will commence at 1:30 with the meeting to follow about 2:00 pm.

We will be out next Saturday, hopefully the sun will be as well. If you can't come in your 7 then come in your Ferrari, we'll all tell you what a great car it is and how cool it is, even if we don't really mean it!

I will be there next weekend. whether it be in my 7 or in my camry, or my saleen. although i don't drive the saleen in the rain either. so if it is sunny the FD will be there, if it is rainy look for a slighlty beat up 92 camry, with a missing hubcap.

I don't have a ferrari...I WISH i did. that is why i pretend my saleen and FD are supercars.

We all have our fantasies. If you want to imagine your cars are supercars, then we will all try to pretend we are awed by such a fine car and express our sympathy that you had to drive a ferrari instead of your rotary powered marvel. Hope you can make it.

That's what I was trying to get at with my little diatribe.

It is nice to have an option of what to drive. I'm feverishly awaiting the day that my FD returns to life from its turbo-ectomy-induced coma.

So, now that I'm up to date on this thread, I understand that there will be two meetings this coming weekend.

I hope to see some of you guys at our meeting in RTP on Friday night.

As for the remaining three of these meetings, I will have to see how flexible my schedule is. I'd like to continue to hear reports on who/how many folks came. That information would help determine which weekend is best for a Raleigh meeting.

Well, I have been waiting for somone to have a Saturday meet. I couldn't be there very much for some of the following reasons. Distance. I live in Havelock by the beach about a 3hr. or so Drive (time and milage). I don't drive my seven in the rain and I take ofence to any one who would challenge me to do so. It's my car I drive it when I want. I obviously can't make it to the Friday night meetings. I am very busy most weekends and that is a great chunk my of time. I applaud you and hope this takes off. I would like to attend some of these meeting so don't give up at least for a couple of months. I think the give away Idea is a good one too!I know there are alot more people up in Raleigh they post all ove this site. There really wasn't too much advanced notice on this last meeting

Good luck and thanks for offering an alternative for some of us long distance, can't be there on Friday crowd. Oh and don't have lots of $$$$.

ain't that the truth.

obviously i am exagerating about my cars, i just don't drive them in the rain and happen to have the facilities to keep them in a garage; just a personal choice.

I am actually going to try and make both the friday and saturday meets this week.

now everyone else needs to carry their 7's up to one of these meetings. so far the only ones i see posting are GTU, Visago, Bond, and my annoying ***

Blacksupra if Bert would be so kind as to do the meeting at 6:00 on Saturday would you go? Do you think you can get a hold of Derrick with the silver FD and see if he wants to go? Also, get anyone else you know with a 7; poor redneck if he wants to come, etc.

Maybe if we moved it to 6:00pm people like smoken and sevensheaven could make it. Was this something you were gonna try to do for this saturday, Bert?

All kidding aside it is time to get motivated about making this happen. Everyone who posted saying that this would be a good idea should come out and show support. After all I will be driving my supercar FD out there.

SATURDAYS IN RALEIGH

I love it, I always knew you had to be a little off center to own and love RX7s but even I'm impressed with the posts so far.

Yes, we will be meeting this Saturday, the forecast so far seems to indicate that it will be excellent driving weather for JM to comeout. If that's not enought to draw a crowd, I don't know what else would do it. DID Y'ALL HEAR JMunilla will be on the road with his FD! Come out, if for no other reason than to meet J and his supercar. JM, will you bring pics of the Saleen and Ferrari?

If there is enough interest in an after 6:00 pm meeting we can try a meeting at 6:30. I haven't seen any objection to this time from anyone. In fact why don't we try meeting at 6:30 pm this Saturday. I'll show up at 2:00 pm just incase someone doesn't get word of the time change. So fac I have counted 8 7owners who have responded with interest on this thread. If we can get organized and show up for a meeting that will be awesome. spread the word guys.

Question, you guys that don't drive in the rain and keep you cars under a car cover, in a garage, do you take the cover off when you take the car out for a drive?

SATURDAY MEETING, MAY 8, AT CHAR GRILL ON STRICKLAND, see directions above. MEETING TIME 6:30 PM. If you can make this time and location PM GTUser and it is a problem post a note on the forum.

Thanks

Bert

Don't be mad because you can't afford to have cars in the garage, that you don't have to drive in the rain.

Just on a side note, Bert, we are just joking here; right? or has the sarcasm/humor in my posts eluded you? or are you mad about the Bible thing?

Obviously, I know that my FD or my saleen are not supercars. I just choose not to drive them in the rain. Just a personal choice, nothing more.

Oh and maybe my showing up with my supercar WILL attract some poeple. <--(sentence rich with sarcasm and not meant to be taken seriously by, Bert)

oh and i can bring pictures of my saleen if you'd like, but again i don't drive a ferrari. i may have an NSX by this winter though, would that qualify for your admiration? <--(again sarcasm, i could care less about your admiration. get it? it's called humor and good old fashioned ribbing) coincidentally, I won't be driving that one in the rain either.

Just want to make sure you aren't holding any ill will towards me. I don't take much in life seriously, perhaps you do, and that is where our misunderstanding has come into play. If you don't want me showing up to your meets, just let me know. I just won't show, I won't cry about it at night or anything...or maybe i will .

-Josh

Hey JM, yes I am joking. Nothing wrong with taking care of your cars. I'm hear to have fun and become a better RX7 owner. If there were a contest for RX7 owner of the year, you'd be my top choice. I don't take this stuff as serious as Ashraf, I'm in to enjoying my good fortune to own a 7 and I hope everyone else enjoys their cars as much as I do.

I can appreciate your concern for your car and after all it is your car.

Hey Dave, great to hear from you. We'll meet at Strickland Road unless it rains and then it'll be at the Blue Ridge Rd. garage. Is 6:00 pm ok for you this Saturday? I'll post a final invite with all the details sometime Thursday afternoon. I hope I can get some feedback from everyone concering who will be there this Saturday.

I just met the auto locksmith that I found last week to see if he could rekey my passenger door lock. I'll let you know how that comes out.
