RX7s at Huntsville Night Time Autocross
RX7s at Huntsville Night Time Autocross
I traveled from Birmingham to run the Twickingham Auto Club's annual night time autocross. Amazingly there were 5 FCs and 1 FB there. Unfortunatley 3 of the FCs were just there to watch.
I know the FB driver because he frequents the SCCA events in Birmingham but I didn't know any of the other RX7 drivers. I said hi to the other FC entrant but I don't think he realized that I was in the other RX.
TeamTAC.org has not published the results from the event, from best I can tell I was behind two Miatas in E-Stock. I never heard a time announced on the other FC.
If you were there post up your times or your excuse for not running

Holy crap! I got 2nd in E-Stock with a 39.072
That is the most Miatas I have beaten at a single event. But had that course had one more jug to drive around I probably would of placed 5th. The FC's will never outhandle the Miatas in E-Stock.
I almost can't believe it. I was on my "street tires". The Fate-O AR-35 205-55-15 made in Argentina just don't scream, or even whisper performance.
I have been debating on trying to make the car more competitive with some decent shocks and an adjustable front sway bar but I know I could dump another $2k into the car and it still would be a mid-pack E-Stock car in B'ham. Had Mazda just given the car some sort of "legal" front camber adjustment I would enjoy the car 100x more.
I was told that someone was complaining about the legality of my car in stock class at that event.
FYI: Stock class is open to cat-back exhausts, front sway-bars, shocks, air filter, and some other insignificant items.

This course featured a "GT4 Tea Party" a.k.a "The Mine Field" it was a feature that had an entrance gate and an exit gate with various cones between them. The rule on that one was "make the entrance and exit gate, what you do between them is up to you". The small cars were lucky enough to have straight shots through in both directions and thus allowed me to nearly hit the rev limiter in 2nd gear. There was probably ~150 yards to drive in a straight line.
