RX7 T2 Vert is totalled
OMG, so glad you made it out ok!! I used to have an FC vert too and I never really gave it much thought if I ever got in a rollover in that thing.
Even though my replacement was a vert too, it has rollover protection, but this thread makes me reconsider future verts without any sort of rollover protection (or cars that can't be fitted with rollbars.)

i kinda thought you were gonna say S2K:
IS this the hoop?

If so then I suggest you get something else. If you flip you're still gonna hurt yourself (unless you pull a hurley.) That's the problllem with the vert ones. In order for it to be an EFFECTIVE roll bar it needs to give you and the restraint system some room in case it doesn't keep your butt in your seat.

Yeah, its not much use for people over 6ft tall. The rollhoops is just a little extra security for people shorter than 6ft. However, the windshield frame is designed to support the weight of the car and Honda actually conducted their own rollover tests even though convertibles are exempt from rollover testing.
Not saying it will completely save the occupants because I have seen pics of the S2K windshield frame holding up well, but in a few other severe cases, have seen it almost flattened. Thats the perks of owning a vert though...

Hurley - I am really sorry to read this. I am glad your o.k., that is the most important part.
A little FYI for the rest of you.
I just insured my RX7 with AAA insurance, because it is a 1987 and 20 years old it qualified as a collector car. I am limited to 5K miles a year (not a problem for me, I have only put 12K miles on it in 7 years) and it is fully covered to my stated value of 15K. The insurance is running me $400 a year!!
Good luck on whatever project you decide to do next. If I was you, I would look for a 86 base (non vert) to swap the fun parts to. Make it lightweight. I have a friend with a TII swap in a 86 Base and it weighs less than 2300 lbs.

man I'm sorry dude. Atleast you're alive, it could have been a lot worse. Maybe you could salvage some parts off of it, unless thats one of those yards that wont let you get ****...
There was a construction zone ahead but i thought nothing of it and began to slow down. Unfortunately the zone was righ after a curving upward part (oakland park southbound on 95)..... as soon as i got over the hill i knew i was fucked. I dropped the car into third ... tried pumping the brakes. I was able to avoid a driver side impact
i think he was unable to see the stopped traffic until he went over the crest while slowing down but it wasn't enough. The brakes locked the wheels, he spun to the right, leaving him open to a driver's side door impact. He was able to turn the car the other way, (pass. side) hit the car in front of him, sent him spinning the opther way and FLIPPED.
That's how I understood it. Maybe he can elaborate/ correct this.

damm, I just seen this and it is a good thing you were able to tell us about it.
I think I am going to get a roll bar myself, I drive pretty mellow but sometimes things are out of your hands.
BTW- the collector insurance has requirements, mine has age requirement of 25 for each licenesed driver in the house, as well as a daily driver no more then 10 years old for each licensed driver. They try to eliminate the car being driven everyday otherwise everyone would just buy a older car and insure it for cheap I suppose.

ncross .. it actually took the impact amazing. I hit someoen that was dead stop at nearly 70mph and you can see at the front pasenger side ... barely any damage occured aside from a crumpled fender.

So Depressing.
I used to have an FC and I suffered from bouts of depression when I blew it up at the track and had to sell it for nothing.
Convertible owners, get a four-point roll bar for god and the devils sake.

Well the convertible lives again in my ny 1990 FC
The FMIC, fuel pump, injectors, were all thats left and salvaged. Still seeing if I can find someone to fix my bent wheel from it.
