Wow, talk about a lurker. You've been registered for 3 years and only now made your first post? Good for you - you must have read all the FAQs and stickies by now.
I'm often in Lilburn, and know a couple guys over there, so you're in good company. Next meet is in two weeks, on Sept. 2 in Suwanee.

Thanks to all of the OG/TA er's for coming out to the OSJC meet at Fort Yargo. You guys are a great group. Sorry for the Rx7 sacrifice for the hot dogs..Lol. I would have posted sooner, but two days before the Yargo meet my computer got hit by some pop up bug, and it's been locking my computer after just a few minutes. I think we've found a good site for the next OSJC meet. It will be at Mary-Alice park (on Lake Lanier) It's close to SR 20, and Hwy 400. We were going to have it in early october, but Petit Lemans is the first weekend, and I know I'll be broke from that for a couple of weeks. So. OCTOBER 25, SATURDAY @ Mary-Alice park ON LAKE LANIER, OUR LAST OSJC CAR MEET FOR 2008. Time of the meet will be around 12:00 or 1:00 because of it getting dark earlier. This is the Official, Unofficial, statement from us Zerogarage guys. We have a few details to hammer out, but I'll post up the official, Official, statement in a few days. Oh, we're trying to get some Ol' Skool cars, to go to Petit, for like an unofficial, official, Road Atlanta infield meet. If anyone is interested, or is going to Petit.

It would cause too much confusion to change the date at this point, It's posted on many different forums. On a side note: We know each other...I worked at ABRA in Suwanee as an estimator a long time ago when you had some work done on your FD. Do you still have that car?

No, I just sold it last year. That is awesome, I think I remember you saying that you worked for ABRA before, can't remember if it was on the forums, or I saw you at some meet. Well hopefully I will meet up with you guys sometime soon. Or you could come out to our OGTA meets on 1st Tuesday of the Month.
Glad you said something.

Sounds like you've got the bug Michael.
Next regular OG@TA meeting, next Tuesday, September 2, sometime around 7:00 pm.
I will bring corks for those off you wanting to upgrade your 2GDFI's.
And yeah that October 25 joint OG@TA/OSJC meeting should be the bomb. Except Holly won't be there (busy girl, that Holly).

^^^^^ Still random. ^^^^^^
On the other side of things, my dad and I got my 'new' car home. She's a 1988 GXL dressed in Arctic Silver with a blue interior. 75,000 miles on the clock and an autotragic transmission. The transmission was slipping pretty bad when we finally got her started, so I added some of that Lucas crap. The problem is pretty much gone now but there's still a bit of a judder when you're going up an incline.
No pictures yet, but I will tell you that the hood was so badly oxidized and stained with GA red clay paw prints that I had to wet sand it last night. There's still places where I didn't sand well enough. But after the sanding and the polishing and the wax the paint looks great.

The engine runs alright...kinda stumbles into life but the spark plugs are pretty pathetic. The only problem is that after talking to a good friend of mine it's believed the timing is too advanced and that the recent looking thermostat replacement is a non-OEM unit. The reason for this is that the motor runs a perfect (Actually slightly low because of the constant e-fan) temperature when idling...but after driving it for about a minute the temperature shoots up nearing destruction zone. However, the moment you stop and let it idle the temperature falls very rapidly back to normal.
My Mazda dealer didn't have the Thermostat in stock, so they ordered one and it'll be here next Tuesday. The timing is another story. Does anyone nearby have a powered timing light and knows how to reset the timing? Ray?
Other than that...it just seems down on power for the simple reason that it's a slushbox. It's awful and it feels so wrong driving it.

Would you happen to need any 2nd gen parts to go back onto that T2?

The fan is doing what it should, aside from running ALL the time. I'm pretty sure the temperature issue is a non-standard thermostat or maybe it's stuck. Either way, it's going in the trash.
The tranny still slips a bit at first...not sure how reliable of a drive it'd be up to Jefferey's. I don't think the new t-stat will be here in time anyways.
I can't wait until it's got a proper gearbox installed, my exhaust and my suspension. The cool news? The shocks/struts and springs are all in good enough shape to put back on Grace...as well as the hole-free exhaust.
BTW, I now have three sets of wheels and three sets of good tires. I feel oddly rich or something. Three motors too. And a shedload of random parts. For the first time since my rotary addiction began I feel somewhat safe.
It's very possible that one of my spare motors will end up in Brett's car when his 250,000 mile survivor eventually gives up. To be honest I'm not sure it'll ever blow.

If you do want to get the car to Jeffrey's, an Autozone t-stat will work just fine, and isn't much work. Easy to redo when you get the right one in the mail.
