With the Vic at least you've got a good chance of survival if you get stuck in a snow bank on a remote Vt road somewhere.
I just hate to think about Wanda rusting away on that tax dollar salt.

Little too much info, Collin. Let's keep this thread to rotary stuff. If you want to share details, then the Lounge is what you want...
How are things going in VT? You should get some OGTA meetings going up there. You could even make it a YGTB club instead.

Collin I hope you don't leave the rotary world. You have a wealth of information and have become an FC expert. Now if you trade and drop a rotary in the CrownVic, that would be awesome, except for the fact that it would not handle. I knew a guy who used to autocross a CrownVic. I never witnessed it in person, but he would get the best time of the day. Amazing.

Trading an '86 for an '05 is pretty damn impressive.
Also impressive is how well that car rides. It's buttery smooth, but strangely it doesn't roll as much in the corners as you might expect. Ford knew what they were doing.. The funny part about that is, that while it corners rather flat, when you hit road imperfections, you get a good bit of wallowing because of the solid rear axle. It's not as bad as the earlier cars, though. They refined the suspension on the P71's in '04 I believe.
Another nice touch is the sound it makes...or rather doesn't make. It's whisper quiet when you're driving around town and on the highway, but when you lean into the throttle, the metallic growl of the 4.6litre Modular engine really sounds quite good.. The cherry on top of that sound is the squeal the alternator belt makes when it changes up from second gear into third at redline.
The interior is typical retired L.E. vehicle.. the rubber floor where carpet would normally be is stained in a few places, but I bet I can get the stains out with a bit of elbow grease. The driver's seat is partially rubbed through because of the officer's utility belt.. but all in all, I like the simplistic layout of the dash and the door panels. It's all very utilitarian.
The paint isn't amazing.. there are of course holes in the boot lid and the roof. The white paint is typical Ford/Mazda and is flaking off in places. Some paint transfer is evident... gee, wonder why?
As for rust.. it actually all seems pretty kosher. The lip that runs just under the rockers down the side of the car is starting to corrode, but it's not rusted through yet by any means. Some rust removal and a quick coat of white spray paint will make quick work of that. I may end up having a buddy of mine undercoat the car for the low-low price of materials.
An area of concern for me is the universal joint on the steering column, where it goes through the firewall down into the fun turny bits. It looks pretty damn rusted... but it also looks extremely easy to replace and it can't be too expensive.. Hell, I bet Advance even stocks the part!
Another area of concern are the spark plugs. This sounds dumb, but I won't go anywhere near them. I'll take it to a Ford dealer and have them install new plugs. Why, you ask? The 4.6 mods are notorious for blowing the plugs out of the block after you've replaced them. Weak threads, I guess. And if that happens, I want a way to have my car repaired for free because it's not my ****-up, it's Ford's.
The revised 17" steelies (More flush appearance rather than dished and lipped) look way better over the -'04 cars. They'll need to be repainted though, as some surface rust is starting.
I'm pretty excited.. The whole deal rides on whether or not the shop in Randolph, VT fixes the problems it currently has.

FINALLY reinstalled Photoshop on my desktop computer and was able to go through some photos I've taken recently. Figured I'd post my favorites up from the day some of us saw the Rx-792P.
Thanks again to Paul at Mazmart for setting this one up.

Man have we had some great driving weather lately. No question about, the 7's just love it when there is a nice cool charge of air to suck in. Of course it may just be that not sweating and sticking to everything in the car that makes me feel better. Ray, you told me I did not need AC if I had a sunroof. Fool me once...

That cool air has the Silver One feeling spunky too, running like a Swiss clock on the commute today.
Mike you have suffered through the only two bad months, all the rest is gravy minus 100 lbs. of AC equipment that stays in the garage. Trust me, real men don't have AC.

Looks like its time to upgrade to a 15 then lol. what size 14 do you have on it now?
Ray, The SE is fine, except for it hates the hour dive to work and back everyday. It was my mom's car that was acting up. Do you have a stock cat laying around?
