That's easy for you to say Holly, dumb blondes can get some guy to go fetch some fuel for them. Old guys have to do it themselves.

2nd gens are known for wiring issues. I would suggest doing all your additional grounds if you had not done so already.

Neg side of battery *terminal to chassis/frame
Neg side of battery *terminal to top of block (where wiring harness bolts down)
Ground motor to chassis/frame (different location than one above. I used a small wire on lower motor to engine mount)
Ground starter body to frame
Ground ECU to chassis/frame inside car

Yep Brett, sounds like you gotta do some trouble shooting. Or maybe now is the time to move on up to an FB?

Hey Josh, welcome to OGTA. We welcome virtual members too, you might want to post a photo of your car and yourself in the mean time if you can't make it down for an upcoming meeting (next one is next Tuesday, April 7). Here's the usual format:

Mike on your 85 cruise the other day the Gray Ghost probably was being influenced by the rotary vortex that eminates from Jefferson, I've measured its effects clear out to Braselton. I think it causes the rotor lube to circulate at a higher rate, kind of like a hormone effect for wankels.

Good News

My wife was discharged from the hospital today and she is done with chemo. Now we just have to get her healthy again.

Ray, I think you are on to something about that rotary vortex. It might even reach as far a Mill Creek.

The Gray Ghost has started for the past 2 days. Monday was a little rough, today was better. But, he starts out a little lumpy. I hoping he will continue to heal. Maybe the OGTA meet will do the trick.

Crit, can I borrow you compression tester sometime?

lol, brand new. I'm pretty sure it's not that- the headlights and brake lights and keyless entry work flawlessly.

That I haven't. What gauge wire do you suggest? I've got putting a ground from the negative terminal to the chassis to the block written down on one of my many 'to do' lists, but I've never heard of the ECU and starter grounds. It wouldn't hurt, though. Thanks man.

I'll try that the next time it does it. I drove it all day today and it's been acting fine. The cutting out stopped and everything... This kind of makes me want to re-think driving it all the way to Pensacola

Oh you wish! If I get enough financial aid for college, I could use my saved money to buy a ratty FB

Anyways... I've got Tuesday off of work, so I'll be out there.

Ok guys, I have an idea.

This guy is willing to sell me his 13B from his GSL-Se with trans and all engine accessories for $250. The car runs, he just wants to do a V8 swap. I want to know if it's a good idea that I buy it and save for a rebuild kit, then build it as a midly ported 4-port using 12A side housings in a year or so. Also, if it's a good idea, can someone with a truck come down to Cecil Ga (near florida/georgia line just before Valdosta) and pick it up with me, and does anybody have room to keep the block whielI save for the rebuild kit? Crit's garage... one of Billy's trailors... somewhere? I live in a condo and 250 for a running SE block with full accessories (UIM LIM injectors alternator ignition, everything) seems like a good deal I don't want to miss but I have no where to put it. When I get the kit, new rotor housings, and 12A side housings, I'd then come out and pick it up to move it in my Cousin's basement and rebuild it.

Now that's pretty.

Chris I like your idea, sounds like a great project. But you know you'd be conributing to the delinquency of an FB, right?

A ratty old FB would be just the ticket Brett!

current mods include NGK ignition system, custom exhaust 2.5" down pipe into a magnaflow muffler, FC alternator upgrade. all filters are K&N (intake, oil, and fuel) currently awaiting an electric fan conversion (have fan, just havent installed it yet) and i'm also in the market for a decent used 12a header.

That one went right over my head Kevin, you'll have to explain it at the next meeting.

Josh that's one pretty car, thanks for the photos. I especially like the red interior and cup holder, total class. Here's my set up:

I prefer white and silver exteriors but others at OGTA would die for black like yours.

The Tuesday meeting is at Jefferies in Suwannee Georgia, us old guy don't get out of town much so Chatanooga sounds like a long way, but who knows, maybe someday. In the mean time there is always the virtual world, Chad likes to hang out there too.

Hey Collin, you know that's not an original motor in Sabine, but it doesn't use a serpentine belt. There's a chance you may have an older front pulley, like off a GSL-SE, that would be entirely swappable onto your engine. I'd check that front pulley to see if the pattern's symmetric or not.

my paint is actually in pretty bad shape. it looks ok on camera but it definitely needs some touching up in the nose area. the previous owner painted the car and did a crapy job, my guess is they probably did it out doors and let it get exposed to dirt, gravel, dust, wind, ect.

Gray Ghost Update

The Ghost is still sick... He did not start this morning. I am sure he'll start with a little ATF.

Crit, any chance I can borrow your compression tester? I want to confirm the worst before I take the next step.

The next step: Anyone know where there is a clean, low milage, FB? I need something I can drive as is. I'm thinking 12A, but an SE could work. The Ghost would become a donor car.

I am hoping to bring the Ghost out to OGTA next week. It might be a farewell for him.
