I've got some happy and depressing news.

The good news is that Sabine is 95% back together. I have yet to reinstall the heat shielding.

The bad news is that while the transmission conversion is over and done with, it won't start. It's acting as if there's still a safety interlock in place...but there shouldn't be. Crit ran a trigger wire from the starter, which I fed thru the firewall and directly to the ignition (Thick black, red stripe) leaving the other half disconnected. This should work, but it's not.

The second set of bad news is that I cannot use my RB header or presilencer until the tranny crossmember is modified to let it squeak by.

when my car had the auto- 5 spd conv done, the neutral safety switch was never put in, so i can start the car without depressing the clutch pedal...so something in the wiring...not sure what it could be, let me take a look at my wiring under the car, maybe i can take a pic and you can compare the two. i will get back to you on that one

Zach I didn't know your car had been an automatic?

I didn't bother to install a clutch interlock switch. I hate those things.

But yes if you could go let me know what your wiring is doing that'd be great.

Colin, All you need is 12 volts to the spade terminal on the starter when the key is turned to start. If you look at the starter there is a small wire with a female spade.
Check the wire going down to the starter for 12 volts. You will need a volt meter and a buddy to turn the key.

Billy, Crit and I ran a new 14 gauge wire from that trigger to the ignition as per the write-ups. This is supposedly to bypass all of the interlocks...which should be true because you're running your OWN wire from the ignition to the starter with nothing in between.

Is the starter a "known good" unit? Meaning do you know for certain it is good?

That solenoid can go bad that is on the starter. I believe you can get a replacement for around 60 bucks from advance or the like if it is bad. Have you bridged the 2 posts at the starter to see if it turns?

Did you check for power on your new wire that you ran to the trigger?( Dumb question but it has bitten me before )

I as well hate interlocks. Damn the sfaety police.

Of course I have no idea if that starter is good or not, it was just one I had lying around...

The one that I got off the same car I pulled the drivetrain from I *KNOW* works but we put it thru some hell trying to unlock the motor in that car...we're talking so hot it smelled like an electrical fire and pouring water on it produced STEAM. I'm going to swap starters tomorrow with the previously mentioned to hell and back starter...and see if that works. If not, I have a presumed rebuilt 'automatic' starter I'm looking into seeing if I can use.

I'm frustrated. Very frustrated. So frustrated that it makes me want to go buy a pack of smokes...but I know I shouldn't because they're bad for me and I don't want to become addicted again. I was hoping to have this car drivable to work by Thursday's shift...and it might not be. It's just all very disappointing...I thought that I had done everything the right way, using the right write-up, the FSM and some very very intelligent friends to help me when I needed it yet the damn thing won't start.

Wow I need to make a pot of coffee.

Yep Tim, those cell phone photos are so last century.

You can find the memory cards at Microcenter, but watch out, they have tags that set off sensors if you try to get them out the door without paying (ask me how I know).

Colin, don't get discouraged. You are young and full of idealism and expectations. But the world is a different place. Trust me, someplace in the heart of that silent beast you are building is a rational explanation for the no start, you just need to calm down and find it.

Remember, whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. And when you finally make Sabine happy again, you will be such an expert on the FC autotragic to standardmagic transition. You can even post a tutorial on the tech page - you are taking photos, right?

And yeah, keep off the cancer sticks and don't smoke some just because I said it's a bad idea.

And how many things did we break last night, Tim?

By the way, for those that don't know, there's a reason so many FDs go the single turbo route. As designed, the twin-turbo FD changes intake and exhaust routing so that all the flow goes through one turbo, then up in the rev range, diverts exhaust to the secondary while recirculating air through the compressor (pre-spool), then finally puts the secondary turbo to work. All that nonsense, plus emissions, plus the desire to not shoot fireballs, means that the solenoid rack (rat's nest) is a freaking two-tier mess with solenoids between the two planes of hardlines, all underneath the ignition coils, all underneath the throttle body and upper intake manifold, which has a ****-ton of sensors underneath it for the sake of looking pretty when you pop the hood.

And Tim's part, the Pulsation Damper del fuego, was underneath the solenoid rack and ACV (Mind you, the turbos are outside the LIM, so the ACV has to be relocated to the other side, also under the TB and UIM).

They're fast, they're sexy, but they're an absolute monster when it comes to service. Good job, Tim. Oh, and smart purchase

colin, it's real easy to check a starter before bolting it on. all u need r jumper cables and a screwdriver(or a piece of wire). places like advanced and autozone will test it for free.

Uh, I believe we broke nothing last night. We cut a fuel line at my direction, but with as hard as it was to get off, I wanted to replace it anyway. It's 6" of rubber line. I'm ok with that.

And which purchase was smart?

Tim, my compliment was on buying an FD in the first place. That's... yeah.. a great decision. And I was kinda bragging on you for not breaking anything in the course of getting that whole mess out. Anyway - I'm off to try and change my avatar back (no animated .GIFs are allowed anymore).

Woohoo - the mod Gods have spoken and reinstated the RX-2 avatar. Now I know better than to change it.

So I guess I'll let Collin post about his car when he gets a chance I'll let it be a suprise. I rode up there after school and helped him play with the car for a while... Yep.

Thanks for the hood-prop clip, Crit. I felt pretty spiffy popping the prop into it...

And I've still been thinking about the whole 'vert and extra motor and my car and what not, and I'm thinking that I should pull the motor from the 'vert to save for parts and whatever else I might need later on down the road, and sell that car. And I can stash the 'verts motor in the GXL and have all my spare parts loaded into that car. And I can use the very, very small amout I'll probably end up getting for the 'vert to go towards an FB I've been thinking how cool it would be to have another running RX7, and FB's are supposed to be cheap and reliable, right? But it's another one of my thoughts... it may or may not happen.
