Billy, Holly, Donnie, Brandon and myself are making plans for Deal's Gap. Who's going?

Holly and I plan on meeting around noon at the Wal-Mart at Hwy 20 and 985 in Burford. From there, we'll head up 985 to gather up the crew in Toccoa. Anyone else want to meet, or offer alternate plans?

Hi Rotorheads,

We are going to leave Atlanta from the north side. We are meeting up at the Wal-Mart Parking lot off of I-985N and S.R.20. There are gas stations and places to eat there.
From Atlanta drive on I-85N (once you are north of I-285), about 14 miles, then stay to the left and continue on I-985N.
Once on I-985 take the first exit, which is Exit 4, Buford Drive (S.R.20)
Turn Right,onto Buford Drive
then Turn Left at the 1st light. Drive down into the Wal-Mart parking lot on the left. We will be parked away from the building.

Post here if you plan to join us.

We will want to head out of there before 12:30PM.

We are going to be in Toccoa that morning. We will be heading up Hwy. 441 to Franklin, NC. If you guys go that route we can jump onto the caravan.

There is a gas station right at the Toccoa exit on 365(985) just before it turns into 441. We can meet you there or we could meet at a movie theatre just before the Toccoa exit.

We should take 441 to Franklin, and then take 28 on up to Lauada, and Nantahala is right around the corner.

How far is the drive from where you are to the Mall of GA exit off of I-985? If we leave Exit 4 at 12:30PM what time should we get to where you can meet up with us? Oh, and we are talking Friday, right? b/c u mentioned Thurs.

 

I'm tempted guys but I gotta work, especially on Thursday. But I'll be there next year!

From Phil's minute-by-minute account of where we should all be, what we should wear, and whose ***** we should be cupping at any given time HERE, it looks like they'll be at the dam when we arrive, which is a good drive from Nantahala Village.

If so, we can either modify Holly's route LIKE SO or we can take a new route straight to the dam, like THIS.

I'm fine either way - just letting y'all know that there's extra driving to be done.

 

Hey Crit, if you compare both routes, mileage and timing is about the same. So I'm voting to stick with my route, that way Donnie and Brandon can meet up with us easier. And I had invited the guys from SC to meet up with us close to Nantahala Village, as they will be coimng across 74 (not sure that will happen though) And, anyone that wants a stop, Nantahalah is only about 3 miles round trip from us continuing on 28 across to Fontana Damn.

But, in the end either way is fine with me.

 

You know, I didn't even look. I just saw that Google gave me a significantly different route, and decided it was worth posting. Nevermind - back to Plan A.

That is the route we planned on taking so thats a done deal!

From Buford it will take you about 45min-hour to get to Toccoa. So you will be seeing us at around 1:30 or so.

 

Is there only one exit for Taccoa? Do we just look for the Texaco station, or can you provide us better directions with and exit number? Or should Crit or Billy just call you when we get in the area?

Everyone should bring 2-way radios and set the channel on 7

Ray, we are going to have much bigger and better Dragons to slay, along with some beautiful sites & sights. You should be coming along with us. Then you would know.

 

You want us to stop off and look at 3 guys staring off into space? Are they always at the same spot? How will we find them?

 

Yeah, Ray told them to stand still last March. Given Ray's influence, I expect they are still standing there.

 

You guys have safe and fun trip to the dragon. Next year, I hope to make this trip with you.

There isnt an exit number for Toccoa. It just says exit for Toccoa. There is only one exit. Billy ,or whoever, can call me whenever you get close. Brandon should be either meeting up with you guys in Buford or just jumping on with you on the highway.

I said the gas station cause it would be convenient for anyone needing to stop to get gas, drinks, etc. Once you past the movie theatre, Habersham Cinema, the gas station will be about a mile up on the left. The gas station is right after the Toccoa exit. You go past the Toccoa exit and you immediately go under an overpass. Just after the overpass there is a redlight and the gas station is on the left.

I have three 2-way radios that I intend to bring with me. I will have one extra. When we get to the gas station I can lend one to someone.

A= Habersham Cinema

Just past it you can see where 441 and 17/365/123 cross. The exit for 17/365/123 is the Toccoa exit.
