Headed your way, NC

As things stand at the moment, it appears that my employer will be transferring me to the Raleigh-Durham area in a few months (no specific number at the moment). Are there any automotive "gotchas" that I need to worry about, like (but not limited to)

State-required safety inspections

State-required emissions inspections

Other state-required bureaucratic BS?

Does NC offer a historic or antique car license for my '79?

Any recommendations on least-cost insurance?

TIA,

Yes there is a safety inspection and emissions. Luckily cars older than '96 are limited to a visual inspection. There are ways to circumvent the bureaucratic BS if you know where to go.

Yeah. It's one of the reasons my cars a registered in Tennessee. The other reason is the yearly communist personal property tax on vehicles.

That's the sort of thing I'm concerned about. How much is the personal property tax? How is the amount determined?

TIA,
George

It's determined by how much they think your vehicle is worth. So for your car, the tax would probably only be like 5 bucks.
