Exclamation Fire - 5 RX-7 - 0

Well folks, that is fire #5 for the SC crew in the past year that I know about. Sitting in the Arby's drive-through I noticed a bit of smoke coming from the undercarrage. I shut her down and got out and got an extinguisher from the stupid woman in the window and put out a small fire. It looks salvagable, appears it started from a FPD that wasn't even 3 years old but I haven't had a good chance to look yet. Didn't even hot-spot the hood so I may have gotten off lucky. I'll keep everyone updated.

Peace,
Justin

Be thankful the stupid woman gave you the fire extinguisher.

Glad it turned out mostly ok, it could have been a lot worse. I think i may be #6 (or #37847902868) b/c my 88 se has a strong smell of fuel sometimes. I need to check the pd too

you may just be able to eliminate it, just replace it with a banjo bolt http://fc3spro.com/TECH/FAQ/pd.html

what all was damaged? if you need any parts, i have a garage full of S5 n/a parts if you need them

im not sure yet what all is fragged, the fire was straight up from the FPD so everything north of that pretty much, lots of vac lines and stuff, need to get under the mani and check the oil injectors and see about the TPS, got just a little cooked wiring but overall not too bad, i can rebuild it i think

looking at Mazdapartscheap.com

primary fuel injectors x2 (260.01) - $520.02
FPD - $138.06
throttle position sensor - 174.60

For just those 3 items- you'd save $69

I take that back...since the prices I listed were for an FD not the 1988 model you needed. But their prices do seem to be cheaper than most so it wouldn't hurt to check it out none the less.

You need to talk to Ray crowe up at malloy mazda in Virginia, I just got an FPD for 105. and change. I don't have the number handy but you can search it pretty easy. Need to mention the forum when you talk to him!

Justin,
Stop lighting your car on fire !Here is the link to where I got my hoses from:

http://www.hosetechniques.com/

I'm pretty happy with the price. I have every silicone vacuum line I could possibly need for less than $100 shipped and it got here in like 2 days I think. On a side note, I was supposed to put the engine back in the car this weekend but I will be too busy so it will have to wait until the following weekend. Of course it doesn't really matter since I'm still missing parts . Next step is painting the motor. Zach suggested yellow. Ummm, how about no. I have some pics I will be sending you, Derek, and Nieto shortly

West Siiiide!!
That will teach you to jack our threads !

i found the cause of the fire............. a little copper washer that fits between the rail and the line fell off when i was pulling everything off the parts car so when i put everything on the GTU that washer was not on there........... result..... $230.00 worth of repairs.

How about a pair of injectors from R/C engineering? I got a pair of 550s a while back for $99 ea. The hell with the factory ones! Are you trying to keep the emmisions? I had the Blue FC down to 3 vac lines.

well i pulled the UIM of the 88 SE, and sure enough the gas smell was the pulsation damper. I popped the plastic cap off it, and teh screw just fell out, it must have been leaking for a while, im lucky it didnt go up in flames too!

Anyway, so im going to try the banjo bolt PD thing. Im going to do the rats nest removal while everythings apart, hopefully i wont screw anything up
