So, Tony will it be a truck again! Heh, who knows you may stumble on another seven someday when you have some extra cash or less bills. Oh, thats right you never seem to have less bills, they reproduce too fast!

Terry, the connector may have been unplugged on purpose by someone, if not the previous owner, to prevent the compressor from burning up when the defroster is turned on. Most modern cars are designed to turn on the AC with the defroster to help reduce the moisture in the air, whic works as long as you don't have the recirc turned on.

Sounds to me like you may have a leak somewhere in the system. Refrigerant doesn't just go out for no reason. It may be something as simple as new o-rings, but something probably has to be replaced, otherwise your new charge will leak out.

Any good AC shop will do a leak check before charging. Just be prepared for them to tell you some stupid bullshit about having to replace $800 or so in parts. They'll probably give you some line about having to replace your compressor and condenser. Common sense prevais: have them SHOW you the parts are indeed bad. Hoses are just about a given to be bad, though. The only thing that really needs to be changed when something leaks, besides the leaky part, of course, is the dryer. When exposed to air it will absorb moisture up to its saturation point, then the rest stays in your system. Not good. They may say they won't warranty the work without replacing the compressor.
If so, get a second opinion.

As for being out to sea, if you're looking for me in June, I'll be out to sea. If you're looking for me every other week from July 1 to August 31, I'll be out to sea. If in doubt, I'm probably, you guessed it, out to sea. FTN!!

That pressure switch was prorbably unplugged because you have zero freon in there and therefore zero pressure in the system. that also means that if there is any oil in the system that there is no way for it to circulate so you kinda need to unplug that pressure sensor unless you want to make a concious effort not to use the defroster.

also, the most common causes of a leak are rubbed lines, o-rings, condensor, evaporator, or condensor. which pretty much means that EVERYTHING is a possible leak. any shop should do a leak test with a halogen leak detector or a dye injection leak test. either way they should be able to show you without a doubt where the leak is coming from.

and like ren said, whenever you open the AC system you NEED to replace the dryer. once that descicant bag is exposed to moisture it is useless and water will kill an ac system.

if it does turn out to be a leak at the compressor make absolutely sure that they flush out all of the lines, condensor, and evaporator with the recommended flush before installing new parts. those minute metal shavings will stop up a brand new orifice tube and then you are back to square one. and for gods sake don;t go to a dumbass that will dump all of the oil in the dryer. the oil needs to be distributed even throughout the entire system to be effective.

just my $.02

more than likely you would have gotten mediocre responses and the people with the real knowledge would dodge the thread due to flaming or some **** for having 'AC on a sports car' and all that crap.

everyone asks why this thread is still open....now ya know whenever we can help eachother out we try to do our best.

good luck with the AC and everything else. sounds like a nice project

and BTW, forgot to mention it before. DO NOT use the ore-packaged charge kits or refrigerant canisters you can buy at parts stores. with r134a, the charge weight is VERY VERY critical to proper performance. so there is no half-assing it.

and don't use any of the stop leak products. dont do it yourself and don;t let anyone else use it on your car. if you do, no one will ever want to work on your AC again. that sealant kills AC machines that do not have a third party filter.

just some hindsight info. lol

Great, thanks for the info, I think your right about the flaming and hassel I would have recieved. I drive my car for pleasure and it's sure nice to have that AC. I'm not twenty anymore. No bash there, I just wouldn't have cared at that time. Now I don't mind trading a little performance for comfort. I don't race it! Besides the mods I have more than make up for a little AC drain.

thanks again

Think gas is expensive here? Try going anywhere in Europe, Africa, or Asia...

well i can;t say much, my rex is still without a turbo due to time and money constraints. so i have her in storage under a very expensive car cover. lol

and if you guys get that audi be prepared for some expnsive bills if you ever have to start to replace parts. and also it is kind of limited as to where youc oudl have ti worked on if a problem came up because not many shops buy the vw/audi software for their scanners or trouble shooting equipment because it is seperate, expensive, and there isn;t much callign for it. so you might get stuck with taking it to a dealer. which means a lot of money.

just my $.02

nahh, we know a guy named scott that helped chris with senior project. he has a rotary shop in hampstead, and he works at German speed merchants, which they work on german cars. all the guys that work there have really quik ands nice audi's and vw's and some porches, and a few BMW's. so we have hook ups with that stuff. but I do understand where your talking expensive for parts and stuff.

anyone that has been into cars will tell you that you should never base a decision on a "hook up"....just because you get a "hook up" now doesn;t mean it will last forever. and i can speak from experience that german cars are a pain in teh *** to work on sometimes.
