Alabama 7s: H'ville to B'ham to Mobile

Well, I thought that since we keep posting in the "Huntsville to Deals Gap" thread and the old Huntsville thread kinda died out that I would start a new thread for the Alabama guys. So talk about anything. And of course if there are Topic Specific issues (ie. Tuning sessions or trips) that need a new thread, then by all means start a new thread. I just thought this might give us a place to revisit over and over and over...well you get the picture.

I'll start. So I hear HDP has bought some new wheels

LMAO!!!! Wow, news travels fast. I got 18" ASA's like Brad but I plan to use my Efini center caps to make custom center caps for them. I also got PLX wideband AFR and a new Defi boost gauge. My plan is to have my car complete in time for the 7/7/7 gathering, so that sounds like a plan.

Okay I got a question or two. As you know Phil I have a stock 7. The 16 inch wheels are small....good for their time but small. What is the best option for 17 inch wheels. What should I start looking for? They must work without rolling the finders and no rubbing. They must look HELLA good also

Oh yea when are you going to invite Eliza and I down there for Lebinezze food?

Hey Doc,

I had couple of set of 99 spec rims and they are great alternative to stock 16inch.

They are about a pound heavier than stock and are 17x8 F and 17x8.5 rear. I loved them and I kind of wished I didn't sell it...

I currently have Gram Lights 17x8.5F and 17x9.5R and I love them too.. Just make sure you get the right offset and shouldn't have any issues..

If you are looking for the largest width to fit under, I say don't pass 10inch wide. I had 18x10.5s in the rear with slight fender roll and was fine... Fronts, I've heard people run 10s but 9s will be the largest I would go..

Regarding Lebinezze's food, Let me know and me and my wife will join you!

Don, Im going to call you in few minutes..

Ramy could get you a set.... if not my source in Japan could also.. Problem is, shipping is quite high!

I think I paid around $1000 per set minus tires

Doc, There is a nice set of 5zigen wheels on the wheel thread. I have been knocking around buying them but can not justify buying right now. They are the perfect offsets.

So good news is I have been driving my car a few miles each day. All seems good so far. This larger turbo and long runner manifold makes for slow spooling!!! The only thing I have to still fix is exhaust leaks from dp. I also am knocking around installing my o2/meth injection.

Mike - I'm curious as to what your goal is with your FD. Is it a certain rwhp number? Maybe a 1/4 mile time? Or just to have one fast street car? Maybe all three? You don't have to answer this on here. You can PM me if you wish but I would like to know.

Don- Those should look really good. Are you still planning on painting them?

Well, I but my mudguards on and thanks to a certain Alabama FD owner, I now have 99 spec converted tails. Also, Jason and them have been moving the rx7store so I haven't got my DP/MP combo yet and he said there was no ETA on the EVO-Rs because he hasn't heard from his supplier in over a month. So I don't know what to do about the EVO-Rs but I'll wait a little while and see what happens. I'm also looking to buy a Boost Controller. Still torn between hood and front end. They might both have to wait as there are some other things I need to take care of...like my air went out on the way to Deal's Gap and I gotta have air.

Yeah, I guess I have all 3 in mind. I would like to make well over 500hp to the wheels. I have the setup to do it so it will be in the hands of Mr. Cain.

Not real sure on the 1/4 since I have only ran it once on the 1320 in Steele. I always just went to the local 1/8th mile track. My best was 7.4 on 16-17psi. So if i could put all together I would like to run in the 6's at over 100mph.

I think fast street car is the main goal. Nothing like beating cars that dont expect it.

I remember running a EVO that had some basic mods before my motor went south. I let him take off in front of me by 2 car lengths or so then went by him like he was siting still! He posted on the HSVRAcing.com site all he heard was a jet going by him. Made my day.

Sweet! That's definitely a lot of power. I would be happy with 350-375 right now and maybe a long term future goal of about 425.

I bet that made your day. It's awesome to smoke some of these highly moded V8s, unfortunately there are still quite a few highly modified cars around here that can give me a run for my money Maybe that'll soon change

You know, its never enough. I said when I first went with a single turbo that 400 was my goal. Then I put in the ported motor and wanted to see 450, and here I am now looking for 500+.

And then there is a few 800-1000hp supras running around town!!

900hp supras

evo7

RHD s13 with about 400hp

RHD s15 (thats right s15) 2002 silvia the kid just got and JUST wrecked. green car with bronze TE 37s.... SEXY!

TT 350z

STILLEN 350z

then there is that silver EK hatch back that runs 7.5s

huntsville has more then you might think. This past friday i went up to Static X and watched a twin turbo chevy nova 2 dyno. it was built by hinson i think, cause he was there. I would say that car is capable of 1200 cause it put down 550TQ with a slipping torque converter and 6lbs of boost. oh and its a caged, full interror SHOW CAR.

so when is the next rx7 meet in HSV? rx7s are poping up everywhere now.

Wow, nice to see another Alabama FD owner. I think most of the FD guys are located in Huntsville and B'ham. For me, I'm the only one in my area that I know of but the Huntsville guys are only like 60 miles away or so. I think there is a guy with a CYM in Montgomery. Surely there are few FD owners in the Mobile area. In fact I was in Ft. Walton/Destin, FL this past week and saw a Vintage Red FD in Gulf Breeze that had a "5" county tag, which I believe is Baldwin and that's next to Mobile County correct? But there are a lot of guys out there that don't come on the forum.

The B'ham guys are always meeting up to eat. The Huntsville guys are starting to try and do that more often and I hope to attend both places a few times.

I may be going back to the beach the first week in July in the Orange Beach/Gulf Shores area and I might drive the FD. If so, I'll PM ya and try to meet up with ya one day.

Also check out MRCCAL.com and keep an eye out for Alabama gatherings and national events like DGRR. You gotta come to Deal's Gap next year. Maybe ride up to B'ham and caravan with those guys. Anyway, you should be able to find some FD owners in Baldwin County, AL; and the Northwest part of Florida = Pensacola, Destin, Ft. Walton, Panama City.

Oh, one more thing, there are a lot of helpful Alabama guys around here and most have extra parts lying around so if you need something then ask some of the Alabama guys...you might get a good deal and some helpful info. I've been helped tremendously!

I am feeling lucky today. I took out the fd for spin today. Got the wideband hooked up so I just turned off the boost control to keep boost on wastegate spring (10psi) and just kept my eye on the air/fuel. I did not go wide open just little by little giving it throttle and I could tell it was making some power as the tires litt up on the top of 2nd gear. I let off and looked at my peak hold boost and it was 1.44 bars (21psi). I about **** my pants. That would have sucked if I poped my new motor. I now have to figure what the hell happened.

Not really sure Brad. I need to look at the lines going to and from wastgate. I do not think they could even cause this. I also may have turned on the boost controller rather than off. That would make more sense because we tuned it for 21psi last time and that is were my high boost settings were left at. But it was not a miss reading because my inj duty was also pretty high.

Thats scary!

Check your lines and make sure they are hooked up correctly.. and make sure the lines aren't ripped. I had similar situation back when and took me forever to find it, at the end it was the ripped and couldn't control the boost.

Should we have a gathering for the BDC tuning??

Ok, what do you guys think of this:

Jason still doesn't have an ETA on the EVO-Rs so I was thinking about not getting them and getting the following: rx7store.net Prices listed below...

Greddy FMIC (M-spec core) = $480
Greddy Elbow = $120
Nippondenso Fuel Pump = $200
Greddy Profec-B II Boost Controller = $330

If I get all that plus install my DP/MP combo along with my HKS Super Megaflow Intake and Racing Beat Catback that I already have installed, what kinda power do you guys think I'm looking at?

Please feel free to comment on all the above. This would mean forgetting the hood or front end for now. If you think there is something I should get instead of something I listed please tell me and I'll look into it. I'm also not against buying used parts as long as there in good working and looking condition.

Thanks a bunch,
Brad
