68 VW fastback rotary build.

I picked up this old 68 VW fastback i all so have a 74 super beetle that i was thinking of doing the same thing to but didnt want to chop her up. I read up on the swap and i saw it can be done. Any one on the forums every done this or know of any web site that has done? Seen a vid on youtupe with a rotary bug. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woqiFrnZqvE

I would think this kind of swap would be much more difficult than the bug swap, just due to how the engine is placed in the car. The type 3's don't have the over engine clearance that the bugs have due to not having the upright fan shroud.

Personally I'd keep the type 3 factory and put the rotary in the super beetle as they're much more common.

A bug, yes, a wankel makes them interesting. Rotaries go good in Porches too.

wmelon137 - The swap is definitely doable. The type 3 fastback has alot more room in the rear than a bug. This is a good thing. Of course a rotary is much smaller than a flat 4 cylinder. You may possibly have to make a rear cover for the engine after the swap. I do not think that the original will work. With this conversion you would use a KENNEDY ENGINEERED PRODUCTS VW to rotary kit. Are you planning on doing the swap yourself or letting a shop do it? Let me know.

I've actually been working on the swap for a while now. I only mentioned the space as a 13b with intake manifolds attached is almost exactly the same height as the original 1600 I took out of my KG.

Here's some older pictures, I'm almost to the point where I can start wiring everything up.
