yea i spent about that much on my civic, the motor, all the parts, suspension, wheels, tires, everything, and i run mid 13's, daily driven, 28 mpg.

I am sure if you put the same amount of money and time into a seven it could compete.....however: are we forgetting what the seven is built for? It's an all around street machine not just a 1/4 mile racer. It is built to take corners as well as it accelerates. It is NOT a HP junkie looking for the fastest et. It was built to appease the select few that are looking for a car that is fun to drive straight out of the box, not after you dump $10,000 into it. Funny, in my opinion to this statement, is why in the hell would a guy dump all this money into a car that was initially designed to haul my grandmothers groceries (note the huge hatch) while achieving the best fuel economy (vtech is designed for a cleaner burn, which does help efficiency but is NOT a wide lobe cam) and all in all is a freakin ugly *** car? Answer: Stupidity

can be good performers if you strip absolutely everything out and dump $6000+ into the motor. I ran a 12.3 with my 94 Eclipse last year and no more than $7500 total for car and parts.I don't know, I think I would have stuck with originality rather than reliability in this case. Not everyone that drives a Honda is a ricer, but of course there are lots out there. FWD sucks, period for traction. lots of people into Hondas, but I would never have gone from a RX7 to one...only vice versa.

 

my point exactly sin, people think all honda/civic owners, are ricers.. NOT! there are plenty of civics out there, that have more than an exhaust and rims.. and the hatchback is the coolest civic. not ugly at all, im just proving a point, u guys are flaming him for buying a civic, well.. all u gotta do is put a b18/k20 in it, and run that ****. stock k20 runs 12's. turbocharge it.. run 9 psi.. u've got urself a pretty slick civic.

 

i'd definately get my car tuned by these guys if i lived that close.. =)

...you can make any car fast throwing money at it. Everyone likes something different. If you like your new honda, then congrats. If you sold the 7 for almost what you purchased for it with a blown motor, even more congrats.

 

My response to this thread was somewhat malicious at first, I apologize. Civics can be very good cars and as ice said, blown motor and still almost what he paid=good deal. I have heard of people making 9 second et studabakers, why? Because they could. Like sin said: originality, but the civic thing is done over more times than Little Kim. Have you ever heard of a 7 driver saying all you gotta do is a motor swap and run that **** TT? No. I just think if your going for fast, start with fast. If your going for unique don't choose a civic. It doesn't matter if you replace everything in the car with custom fabbed ****, someone else out there has one just like it (different stickers does not make you different). Vtec provides two sets of cams, both wide and narrow to provide good power both up top and down low. While it has other benefits, Honda's main goal was performance. Anything else said about it is a load of horse dung.

So what I still haven't figured out is this: why do many people around here hate Hondas so much? I mean vs. "I don't hate them, they just suck", which people don't say. Is it the ricers? Are Hondas too popular elsewhere? Too many guys with the cheaper Hondas who only think they're fast? Jealous??

And I don't think the poster meant to say that the Civic was an upgrade. At least I hope not.

 

They're ugly and annoying. They fall into the same category as geo's, crx's, and cavaliers. "Oh, but you can make it fast if you..." yeah, and I can say the same thing about my mom's camry. I honestly don't care if it cuts 9's, it's still a piece of **** no matter how fast it goes. It'll still look and sound like the economy car grocery getter that it is.
