trouble with EGR output

Im having some trouble getting the EGR RPM activated output working.. my assumption is that the EGR output is the 2-prong connector near the oil filler neck, with blue/white and black/white wires, correct? The FSM shows its a straight connection to the ECU EGR output (see attached pic, ECU pin 2N, blue/white wire)

so, i have a wire going from this blue/white spade to a relay. I am sure the relay is wired correctly, because I can ground this wire, and the relay clicks on. And i measured the current, its only a 100mA draw to turn on the relay. But when i configure the ECU for EGR output checked, then set it for like 2k rpm, and nothing happens when i rev it up. any ideas? thanks

Maybe it's me, but are you working on a series four car? Or a series five? Everything I see indicates series five which does not compute for EGR. Later.

In other words there's no EGR on a series five. 2N is something like Port air solenoid on a series five. You don't use that pin on a series five.

Series five uses 3J instead of 2N.

This is for a S4 TII. What connector is the EGR in the engine bay, and what wire color? i thought the diagram i posted was for S4 TII, haynes manual for 88 TII has the same wire colors. Im using the yellow connector (blue/white and black/white wires), which isnt working. S4 TII FSM says its the yellow connector too

Yeah. You have the right plug/wires for a series four. I've non idea why it's not working. I used the EGR on a series four non turbo to control a solenoid for the aux valves. I'm not using it on the Turbo car though.

no, i had the idea of making a 2-step launch control system, by wiring a relay inline with the power to the coils, and a pushbutton inline with egr output. when EGR is on and button pressed, it will cut spark and hold the rpms steady. but damn if i can get this EGR working

well to troubleshoot, i connected a little LED with 1kohm resistor to check if i am getting a signal, thinking maybe the relay was loading the output. I tried it on the yellow EGI connector, nothing. then i back probed the ECU at Pin 2N, still nothing.

also, the S4 egi connector diagram in the rtek 2.1 user manual is wrong.. it shows the EGI pin 2N as 2nd from the left on the bottom row (blue/yellow), but it is actually 3rd from the left (blue/white). but I tried the 2nd pin too, but this pin is always on.

and yes, i have the polarity right on the LED, i tested it on a bench power supply.
does the car need to be warmed up for the EGI output to work? damn i really wanted this to work..
